Widening my E-350

1998 E-350 High-top

We did a full mattress mounted sideways in the rear.

We have slept in it for a total of 15 nights over the past few months, and my wife feels like it is still too cramped.

Looking at all the Sprinters that are driving around Reno, many of them have a "camper van body flare" in place of one of the rear windows. Example is here:

Camper Van Body Flares – Campervan HQ (campervan-hq.com)

Does anyone here know of a similar product for the E-350? Considering doing my own fiberglass layup, but from past experience I know how hard it is to get the finish right. Another option might be a side window that opens outward. Any sources for those?

Flarespace just released a version for the E series within the past few weeks. A little spendy (~$1600) but they look nice.

Those flarespace things arent worth $1600 by any stretch of even the wildest imagination. Building a plug and laying up a mold isnt complicated in the least, especially for something this simple in design.

How much width do you need? Have you tried removing inside panels? I going right to the outside wall with maybe a layer of reflex and carpet. Just for weekend trips, for now...

Somewhere here on the site, there was a post about a company that makes those, is considering do so for the Econoline.
Then person posting had pics of the mock-ups being done.
I can't recall who or where tho....

I was really hoping this thread was about "widening the E350", you know, cutting the body down the middle and sectioning in 10-12" so the whole body was wider.

I think another 4 inches would do. We are window to window, mattress sits at the bottom of them. Technically we fit with about an inch to spare, but my wife says she needs to be able to point her toes...

In this vein.... can a van body be removed and replaced with say a Unicell box, or does that have to come as a chassis cab initially....
