I would agree that it is the Duratrac effect, with the tread blocks deforming under load. Most of the high void tires I have run, (ST, STT) will act like that. I did not get that feeling from the BFG AT or Nokian LT10s but they have less tread void.

Funny how well we get to know our vehicles. On my old e28 m5 I went from Continental ContiSport Contact 3 tires to some Nokian WRs and I could feel the softer sidewall flexing in corners.

I had 225 40 R 18s on my GTI, in the winter i went to 205 55 R 16, I could absolutely feel a difference in sidewall flex, especially getting on the highway going around on ramps

So very true. It's amazing how easily we notice little differences. Must be a car guy thing. :)

So I managed to sell the old tires off my truck and the snorkel I had sitting around for my old Land Rover. Looks like I'm ordering an ARB bumper early next week, followed shortly by some shocks :D

Before you put the ARB bumper on can you measure the inside length/width of it for me please? I'm wondering if I can make one fit on my truck if the inner dimensions are more or less the same. I'm not a huge fan of the ARB Sahara bumper they make for my Pathfinder. I prefer their Xterra/Frontier bumpers even if I have to make custom mounts for one.

I think I measured the distance between the frame horns and the width of the front of the vehicle for lecoq when he had his R50. I believe its posted in his build thread.

Thanks guys.

Mortonm, is 63" the outside width of the front bumper of your Xterra? I think the Pathy is around 67-69". I'm interested in the interior width more to see if there's enough room inside an X/Frontier bumper to fit.

Not willing to try an XJ unit like Andy?

That wasn't the fill width, that was to where the front fender panels touch the bumper at their further forward. The full width would be pretty close to your 67/69 inches.

I be lieve the official width is listed at almost exactly 70 but that would be at the widest point, not necessarily the bumper.

Can't wait to see this, I had a very hard time deciding between the ARB and the TJM. I am very happy with the TJM but really want to see what the ARB looks like, and to hear about fit/finish.

Any plans for a winch?

I went back and forth for a bit too. I had a TJM bar on my old Land Rover and it was fantastic. Very stout and looked great. But i didn't like at all the way the TJM bumper looks with the lines of the Frontier. I've seen some pictures of ARB bumpers on Navaras and they look great. So that's how that came about.

And yes, soon I'm going to be ordering a Superwinch X9.

Minor stuff today. I pulled my dash apart to figure out why my heater fan was being ridiculously noisy.

There was a leaf in it. Go figure.

Had it been my Discovery, that noise probably would mean I'd have to replace a gazillion dollar part. Loving Nissan ownership :)

On a more exciting note, tomorrow a very big truck with a big box in it will be blocking up my street briefly :D
