XPCamper Updates

I will ask Marc, but I am guessing the answer will be: hopefully

UPDATE: I just talked to Marc, he says "hopefully" is a good answer. Marc tells me that he and his 5 employees are working flat out to fill XPCamper orders, which does not leave a lot of time to work on the new prototype compact XPCamper.

Bummer. The XP for the Tacoma has been a big tease, we'd like to see one at OVX 13.

The XP Camper: Truck Campers, Reimagined

OK guys, I have some great truck camper porn for you! My wife and I went to visit Marc's shop today, and we were stupendously impressed. I wrote up a more in-depth piece on XP Camper right here, along with over an hour of video. Below are some of the pictures -- you can find the full picture gallery here.

Marc, thanks for spending three hours with us on a Sunday. Your passion for what you do came through in spades. Now I just have to go run some numbers and figure out how to afford one of these bad boys :)

I was very much into making my Jeep my sort of "Expo" vehicle but after looking into this camper, my mind has been forever changed. I'm VERY excited about the possibility of having something like this. After I finish up my trade school, I will most certainly be looking into buying one.

Very surprised they did that cutaway van project that is all over their Facebook page, etc instead of doing the Compact Tacoma version. How many people are going to shell out for a specialized cut away van which needs modifications to be 4x4 (still don't see how that is better than a truck?), vs the HUNDREDS OF THOUSANDS of Tacoma-type vehicles already driving around?

Probably because the camper itself didn't have to be modified at all, vs. an entirely new design and mfg. process for the Tacoma.

The only thing different is the truck chassis, and it generated lots of SEMA press for the camper.

... Having said that, I agree that a smaller, cheaper Tacoma model will open the market up substantially for XP. Excited to see where that goes.

At least one, me. The van has a couple of advantages. First and foremost are approach and departure angles. Next, the on board storage of two spares is attractive but they are also developing a pass through option that would replace the current spare setup and offer a different type of convenience, access to the camper from the cab.

Actually, they (meaning XPCamper) didn't build that cutaway van - it was done by ujoint offroad (a different business and member here) to highlight his 4x4 conversions of vans. Given the number of places I've seen pictures of it, it definitely succeeded on that. There's a build thread in the van forum.

True, XP just did the camper, their existing design. I decided to use a van instead of a truck to be different, and i just happen to build 4x4 vans :D

Looking forward to the Taco camper at Overland Expo 2013, we'll have a nice assortment of rigs with XP's attached!
