Yeti and the Marshmallow

Today started with a trip to Home Depot for a paint scraper and one last can of expanding foam. Yuck, I hate that crap. It's worse to get off your hands than the 3M adhesive. I also filled up Marshmallows tummy with yummy 87.

How she looked this morning after a bit of expanding foam.

A bit of expanding foam here and there.

Lots of insulating.

Smurf hands...

I scraped the disgusting grip tape off and cleaned up a good portion of the adhesive. It came in handy for scraping crap of the floor too.

Tomorrow I should be able to finish the insulation on the walls and do a few random things like mounting my front license plate, securing some wiring etc. Waiting for my marine caulking to come in so I can patch some holes in the back door and insulate them.

After I get the walls buttoned up with vapor barrier and do a few more random chores I plan to panel the roof in 1/4" luan plywood. I went and priced some today. Then I will clean and paint the floor and rear door panels and build my insulated sub floor, then I will panel the walls.

After that I need to do some wiring, and install the roof vent, and stain the walls.

Once ALL of that is done the van is essentially finished AND I finally take her for a good cleaning. I am out of money by this time save for some money set aside for living needs. I'll add things over time.

Thanks. How are things going with your truck? Haven't seen any updates recently.

I have been working on another project.

And, I am fixing to start a pretty big job hopefully.

Keeping my fingers crossed on this one, it will be the biggest job I have done to date simply because there is so much of it.

Good luck man. Today I'm going to finish insulating the walls, put up a bit of vapor barrier, do a few odd jobs like install my front license plate, make some holes for the 2 extra screws on the rear, make some templates for my wheel wells and fuel filler, and take some measurements.

I think within the next day or two I will try and get the roof paneling installed and get the floor/door panels painted.

I was going to use cotton insulation in the door cavities but there are too many holes where water can get in. I might go with your idea of high density crafting foam.

Those are drain holes, and you need them. Just insulate the inside of the interior door panels with some closed cell foam- auto upholstery shops have it cheap in different thicknesses. Impervious to water, insulates well.

All this insulation- are you turning it into a walk-in refrigerator? :sombrero:

I got wood.

Wood paneling, you sick bastard. Today I figured with 3 weeks left to go I should jump in and get this done ASAP. So I finished insulating, put up some vapor barrier, then ran out of adhesive. Off to Home Depot, my home away from home where the Mexicans loitering about think I own my business and bang on my van. GO AWAY I'M JUST A DIRTY HIPPIE LIVING IN MY VAN.

So while I was there I got some plywood. After about 30 minutes of head scratching and bothering people who looked like contractors I was settled on some 1/4" sandwood stuff. In hindsight perhaps I should have gone with 3/4", and gone with a variety of wood that didn't splinter and explode when you cut it. It dents really easily too.

Ah well. It was a beast to get up, lots of swearing, and fitting, and trying to get screws in, I can't imagine the damage I did to the paint, I hope I don't get moisture up there or it's going to rust through. Maybe one day I'll re-panel.

I also used my jig saw for the first time today and didn't cut my freaking hand off, yay.

On the pictures!

One wall done being insulated. The other just needs vapor barrier.

Back part of the roof is done.

Oops.

Less oops but still unplanned.

A protruding lump of metal stopped this edge from seating like the other side. I wasn't going to fuss with it, so I left it.

More wood for tomorrow.

They were slammed at Home Depot and the woman forgot to scan my second 4x8 section, so I went back in to pay for it and they shooed me away. *Shrug*

Tomorrow I will get the front half of the roof and probably the passenger side wall done.

For thinner material go to a higher tooth count blade and you will be good to go, it will cut much much nicer.

Ok cool. I need to go get some longer screws for the cross ribs so I will get one of those and a metal cutting blade.

Just be careful you dont get them too long, I dont want to be welding a hole in the roof of the van closed for you.

Also they make some button style washers that will help those screws not pull through the wood.
