2am, wake up drive on the way to the airport. For what should be my now typical 6-hour travel time to Chicago.

Due to zero visibility at SEA, ( my connecting airport) they had a no arrivals hold order. So we were stuck on the PSC de icing pad for 2 hours. Of course, obliterating my hour long between connections. The best I was able to get after all the back ups added 6 hour delay at SEA, and moved to multiple connections SEA-MSP- Ohare . Vs the straight shot from Seattle to Ohare.

I did see a airport 1st, however.

A lady dumps out her carry on at the gate in front of everyone…….( Not uncommon per say)

She then places a plastic bag inside her now empty and laid out carry on, pulls a mason jar of sand out of her backpack and dumps it in….

A lot of folks are now starting to stare at what is happening,

A man then walks up, wearing a weird looking backpack with a globe on it, they then proceed to pull a cat out of the weird backpack, and place it inside the sand box…

They both then start saying, in a very shrill/baby voice “ Make a poop Mr Pickels”…..

That’s one way to clear seating at a gate……

Always great to see the cascade range when flying over,

Could have been worse and still made it to Chicago with a few hours before midnight/new year’s. This did end up equaling being up for 22 hours+

After a late new year, and on a cold Chicago day we decided on a tour on the way to the famous Field Museum, We drove through the more effluent mcmansion subdivisions, there are just so many of them along the lake. We also went past the home alone house. I was shocked that was/is a typical house size in that area.

We spent about 3 hours at the field museum and barely came close to seeing everything let alone actually comprehending what we were seeing and reading. I like to read all the signs, and there was just no way. At least not in the 3 hours,

I know when the vast majority of these specimens were collected, it was before so many of them became endangered, protected, etc. I also realize that, places like this allow folks who will never get a chance to see, study or visit most of them in real life to get to do so. And for the exhibits were well done, but its bittersweet.

” The Field Museum of Natural History (FMNH), also commonly called the Field Museum, is a private–public natural history museum in Chicago, Illinois, and is one of the largest such museums in the world."

“In 1869, and before its formal establishment, the museum acquired the largest collection of birds and bird descriptions, from artist and ornithologist Daniel Giraud Elliot. In 1894, Elliot would become the curator of the Department of Zoology at the museum, where he worked until 1906."

For some reason, I had no idea this is where Sue was housed. Sue, the T rex: is a bit of a big deal, and there is no shortage of history, lore and legal proceedings that go along with her.

"Sue", is one of the largest, best preserved and most complete T rex fossils ever found, at close to 90% and was found in 1990.

I had to call it, after only 20 mins and decided to quit taking pictures.

I have access to these large 3ft x3ft x3 ft wood boxes, well built. 1 use only for shipping. As the client will not allow them to be used more than once. I waited till there were 5 of them and took them home. Deconstructing them one by one and using them to line the shop with. Heck, I was even able to reuse the screws…

Not bad for almost zero cost, I will line the entire shop at 2 box's or about 6feet high this way. Only 1 wall is done at this time. It really cleaned the look up, as well as protecting the insulation. And making it easier to mount things. I am not planning on painting them, as they are labeled from the specific buildings/projects they were shipped to. Ex) PDX141, PDX 202.

This area was known for a chemical/ munitions storage depot. And a lot of the houses and barns were built from old ammo crates. Those places now show that as a feature, I expect in 10 years the project codes on these box's will have the same effect.

Also building a dolly for the camper out of pallets from work. Mishka found the front is a perfect spot to nap as I work on projects...

I failed to mention that the protection of the insulation may be the best part. I know it would be for me. I sometimes think of putting plywood over my sheetrock in the garage because I often damage the walls, a lot.
It is pretty easy to do, this stuff had some rough spots....maybe I should have duct/gorilla taped any holes in the white backing/plastic? Prior to covering it up. They aren't perfectly square, But I can run a 2x4 across the tops as trim to pretty it up if its starts to bother me.

I was pretty appreciative of it, yesterday when I was grinding, and welding as its a good spark guard as well.

I have some others, that are at least 8 feet tall, by 3-4 feet deep, and probably 5 feet wide, I may be cooking up a plan for. We will see, what time and materials end up like. I wanted to originally use just the big ones, but we ended up getting a lot of the smaller and no one else wanted them.

On the cargo trailer, I built to be my shop/gear garage. ( Before I knew about this place) I used those ergo mats from harbor freight, they were cheap and are decent protection. I am pretty sure they would melt, if fire was introduced though.
