Zam15’s Tacoma Build

Nah I wouldn't go links man. Not as good weight capacity and you loose a chink of storage.

Google cantilever tacoma suspension. That's what I want to do.

Cantilever will kill any storage under the bed for aux fuel, water, and spare. SUA as far as I can tell cant hold any weight and you loose clearance. I believe I can have the coilover mounts done in a way that they are tucked in the corner of the bed with the bracing up against the head of the bed so that not much space would be lost, Could actually do an internal roll bar inside the flip-pac as part of the brace. Saw it done in a camper shell and turned out very slick. But who knows, I may end up going that route.

Yea looks like it could work n a flip pack.

But you don't need SUA for cantilever. I'm not going too.

Jerry cans solve water and fuel problem :D

I also feel like a setup like that would limit your actual articulation. I mean full axle droop would be great. But not like crawler stuff..LT still does but I never see them really articulate at great.

I am not sure about that, I think it could flex like Arnold on steroids :coffeedrink: but I have a lot of time before I have the money to do this so I have lots of time to revise my plan. It's just that my SOA setup is not cutting it, don't even feel the bumps with the front end and then it gets to the back and

Lol that's funny. Mine is the opposite. Especially when I'm loaded with gear. Rear is cushy. Don't feel much front is bam!!

Then again I don't have LT...

Hey Derek take a SWAG who has the software for this radio????

English man! SWAG? I believe there are several software packages that you can get to program this baby, none of them I own at this time. Then again I never bough the programming software for my scanner :( Not going to be broadcasting anytime soon, still need to get my license.

Nice radio. What kind of antenna are you running with the 8900?

Currently using the CR8900A Quad Band antenna designed for this specific radio. They tested the SWR at HRO and it looks good. But I also have a 2M firestik that I will most likely swap out for any overgrown trails...

Wow, just spent the last hour scrolling through your build. Looks great!!!

One question. How does the solar charge controller work with your IBS system? I'm assuming when the IBS is charging the aux battery, the solar charge controller backs off?

Also, do you plan to put storage under the solar panels (i.e. raise them up and put a box under them)?

The solar charger is designed to shut off once the battery reaches a certain voltage (12.7?). Right now the solar charger tops off the aux battery to the point where then the IBS will link the two batteries, once the main in full the solar will shut off. Hope that helps, has been working great for my setup.

On the solar panels they are designed to swing up to access the storage of the rack, they are currently on the heavy side so I don't use the storage that often. If I upgrade to higher quality and lighter panels then I can see myself using it more often.

*So Apocalypto (new name?) has been acting funny for last 3k miles from my last oil change. Basically every other time I hit the accelerator little to nothing happens, if I pull my foot off and hit it again it will get moving. Also if I just floor it I'll get power back after a few seconds. Normally happens when starting from a stop or when coasting slowly, but it has happened a handful of times at highway speed. So I left her at the shop last night to see if they could figure it out. They are indicating that it my not be shifting properly so a transmission issue it may be... :( was hoping it would be something like the MAF, TBS, Fuel pump or filter... Guess not.

Does this sound like a transmission issue to you? Currently at 124,000 odo. (loaded truck, big tires, mud, dirt, snow and ice..)

*Also my IBS controller is indicating that the alternator is putting out less than desirable voltage so it won't auto link the batteries, may be all the mud, water and dirt is has seen over the years
*and they spotted on my last oil change what may be a minor head gasket leak... pink crusty stuff on the side of the bloc, so another :(

So I may be looking at:
$$ A new High Output Alternator
$$$ Transmission Rebuilt. (if this happens I will be adding a transmission cooler, maybe swap it out for a manual trans? :p)
$$$ Replace the head gasket. (might as well install a supercharge while they are at it to save on labor cost.)

I have been very proactive on truck maintenance, reliability is the most important thing in my book so I feel I may have to bite the bullet on these things.

Any input on these subject matters? Now to find my credit card..
