I agree, the pintle "noise" is mostly from the surge brake jerking things around. I would demo the surge brake.
You will need to do an axle swap if you want electric brakes. Lots of coupler/tongue mods have been posted here.
Generally I save finish coatings until I am finished.
The paint on these trailers is not exactly flame resistant either.
Trailer is looking good. The drilling of holes does not sound like much but it takes time to do well.
Backing plates, and new hub/drum combo.
Some wire, and maybe a break away kit. If you dont already have one, a brake controller on tow vehicle.

I have a Tundra and they are great trucks. IMO, the Tundra is the only current production truck (that is sold in US) worth owning. Tacomas get the same MPG and are close in price. Unless you are limited on garage space, I would pick a Tundra over the Taco every time. Make sure to get the get...
Still playing around with the tarp set up. I am liking this one the best so far. I will make some shorter uprights.
Got the stabilizers welded up. Things hot a little hot on one and it takes a bit more effort to crank now.
With both deployed, there is still some wobble, mostly from the...
Amazing build. You have guts for attempting and the skill to follow it through.
I probably would have insured it, slapped a bunch of 100 club stickers on it, then parked it outside a liquor store in Ferguson MO.
You will have a once of a kind RV when done.
Marks cover may not work because his rack supports are outside of the bed. If its not too late, you could skin the rack and just lower it down on top of the bed. Some gasket material and a lock would keep the contents dry and secure.
Sounds like you have a good plan. I too have a list of things I would do differently for round 2.
First on your list should be to build a cart for that welder though :)
There was another build on here when a standard axle was used in the way you are planning.
ETA: Found the build thread...
Thanks xaqori, I do lay down a few ugly welds but I dont post pictures.
Finished welding the 2" receivers for the front corners and got a delivery from E-trailer (rear landing legs and 7,4,5 pin receptacle for rear).
I was playing around with a better tarp set up and came up with this.
Supports and ridge pole telescope so they can easily be assembled from ground level and all parts fit in the bed of trailer.
I would definitely extend the tongue if I were doing it again. I still may if I can find some donor tongue pieces. You could probably get by with just one jack in each rear corner and the tongue jack (that is what I am planning to do). Just the single rear stabilizer was fine for tip over...
Looking forward to the build. Please post how removing the stake pocket spring clips works out. I thought about drilling the spot welds but ended up leaving them in and making some stakes to accommodate them.
Even if the tires are in good shape, I would swap them out for a regular tire. You...
It looks like you have a piece of pipe that slips over the jack bar to help stabilize it. Do you have any more pictures?
I have an idea how to attach the lifting hook to the trailer but would like to stabilize the top of the bar to take some of the wiggle out.
Build is looking good. Good call waiting until you are done to paint. Be prepared to never paint it though :)
I painted mine flat black because it is easy to touch up and I can paint as I build. The tan rack on my trailer gets just as hot as the black body.
Do you have any more pics of the...
The failures I have observed have all been on single axle trailers while loading or unloading. They could have been due to operator error but would not have happened with a pintle coupler.
