Next Question: Diesel vs. Gas F350

Yeah, I had to pretend I was driving a school bus. Take my eyes off the road, play with the radio, and it was heading off the road into a ditch. The Sprinter required perfect attention. Absolutely exhausting. With my Ford I have one finger on the wheel, all stretched out and relaxed.

Next Question: Diesel vs. Gas F350

Cab overs and vans are murder on long trips. I can do 19 hours in a Ford or HD dodge. Only 12 in a Sprinter or Express blob. I'd rather travel in comfort. I'm 6'2'', 6'4'' online, my knee's would go through the steering wheel on that white thing that's designed only for local travel...

    Insect mesh to protect radiator

Massive airflow drop. So attach it to the grill and make it removable. I'd remove it above ninety degrees.

    Is the Tacoma enough truck?

Because motorcycles and boats break down. The best way to get ''out there'' in many areas is still bike, boot, or kayak. Nothing to break and leave you stranded. Doesn't mean that having a cozy expo vehicle two days hike away isn't still nice to have.

    Is the Tacoma enough truck?

Most of the big 3's reliability problems stem from budget electronic parts and budget steering and suspension components (especially Gm's joints). Many of their critical parts are becoming more reliable than imports. And consequently, many of the import trucks are slowly getting worse. Easy...

Next Question: Diesel vs. Gas F350

Gm's cabs come off for Duramax service. Don't even get me started about fun dash removals on those for AC vents and such. Tons of fun. I wished they'd just put hinge behind the front bumper, and just pop the whole cab up like an olde cab over semi truck. I'm not sure whats involved in...

Ram HDs with 37s. Do you carry a spare?

Bolt it to the hood for that cool African adventure look. Lol.

Ram HDs with 37s. Do you carry a spare?

While it's cool to look ''expo''. That's nearly useless. Put a couple eyelets on the floor of the bed and just ratchet strap the wheel down. Sometimes I think all of this is just posing with a jerry can and a highlift jack.

Ram HDs with 37s. Do you carry a spare?

If the exhaust is the only thing keeping me from mounting a spare under the bed, then I'm dumping the exhuast out the side of the truck in front of the rear tires.

    Expedition Vehicle selection thoughts?

https://fmtvtrucks.com/inventory/1997-stewart-stevenson-m1078-3/ These look interesting. Given that in new condition they're pver $100 000.

That's exactly why they're unreliable! Lol.

A friend of mine is looking at a 2008 dodge mega cab, he's wondering about a cheap good suspension option...Any ideas on this?

Because the HD Dodges and SD Fords are right on the exact border of death wobble. If you have too much pocket change, or drive under a solar flare, death wobble. Properly setup, I could grind half the lugs on a bfg all kinds of weird with no issues at all. Even sadder is how many pro techs...

The Method NV HD's are pretty nice and rated 4500# a piece IIRC. You pay a bit more for those. Pressure cast and extruded wheels aren't the crap they used to be. I'm OK with the 3600# Method NV's. As long as I have a 5th wheel for a full sized spare, not just my OEM steel spare. No way...

Next Question: Diesel vs. Gas F350

Now do that belt in a muddy camp ground or road. No point in carrying a spare belt, if you can't change it in the field. I think the Ford guys have a long bar to snake it around everything, but your working blind in some spots. The 6.2 is like working on a 1969 442. Plenty of room.

aux lights and daytime running lights

In Ohio you can have only four lights, so we're all illegal. Rear lights on in reverse only. I suppose with just my ditch lights, I'm legal.

What size tires? Short arms suck anything more than 1" or so, sometimes. If you're only after 35"'s, and don't need more travel, stay stockish. Maybe 1" pucks and the Thuren trac bar.....

    Time for a replacement?

Does the beach beater need to tow/haul? A jeep Yj/tj fills that role. They'll be beat in that price range, but they work ok while most of the suspensions and joints are fubar. On that note xj's are the best cheap beaters ever.

Nothing around here in that budget. We have rust free, imported from the south, Excursions around 5000.

    Is the Tacoma enough truck?

If you have to split hairs, and get exactly the right spring rate, you'll have to have custom springs built. I recommend proper shocks if you go that route, not OEM-ish junk. Sometimes there's a rare combo that works, like the weakest f250 spring on a Super Duty with 2000# in the bed. But...

    Bridger Teton Bear Attack

Glocks' no safeties operation requires one serious key item for safe carry and operation. A kydex holster that properly covers the trigger and securely holds the pistol. Mine is always in a Raven's OWB, or Crossbreed IWB. Many hikers and hunter get lazy and carry the pistol in a pouch or...
