Got all the axle components picked up. Hopefully have time to start assembling this weekend. Have a lot going on though....
Still working on getting the spacers machined. Our lathe is down at work, so looking at having a local shop do it for me.
Out the door with u bolt kit, tax included it...
Seems to be a decent deal. If you like the style, for that money it is hard to go wrong.
Quality for me has been hit and miss. Mine had the Atlas bumpers front and rear when I bought it. They were wayyyy too heavy so I dumped them. I went from 400 lbs of bumper to about 80 front and rear (no...
I don't know why boy scouts need such beastly trailers...lol? Ours was a converted '55 chevy pickup bed with a homemade wood topper. Good thing our scoutmaster had a 1 ton.
Cool trailer though. I'm sure you can cut a bunch of weight if you want to.
You are correct... Center bore in an alloy wheel is not large enough. Even the spacers I bought will have to be machined as I wanted to keep it hubcentric like the jeep. I have access to two lathes so shouldn't be an issue.
Some steel wheels will work though.
Nice!
I was going to drive down and pick one up, but found the exact width I needed here.
Don't forget spacers if you plan on using factory wheels. Sometimes the center bore of the wheel won't fit over the trailer hub (at least with a jeep). Make sure you check and allow for that if...
Yep, for sure. I like having the option to do it either way depending on the type of trip. Really don't like rockcrawling with the RTT on the Jeep. Been there done that(see below), however was nice to have it on top of the jeep while elk hunting and I was by myself so didn't need all the...
If you are in the dfw area, the southwest wheel place is your best option as you can pick it up. They will cut to a custom width too. I found mine locally in tulsa, and it was a bit more, but didn't have to pay shipping(tax was less than the shipping cost.)
If you can swing the bigger one it is a much better deal. Really fits well on my m101 tongue. Now to get it mounted.... back to back the width is almost Identical. Height is probably the biggest factor in the size difference, although the bigger one is a bit "longer" on the tongue.
Much...
Spacers are in. I know I will need to machine the center, but have a lathe at work and our maint manager has one at home so shouldn't be a problem getting that done. Wanted to stay hub centric, and went with 2" spacers so I have enough meat in them depthwise once they are machined.
Axle is...
I think I am just going to fab up a swing away rear on my m101. I have the same tongue box as you and i have mounted it in the spot behind it before temporarily, but don't want to go too heavy on the tongue weight with the tire up there.
My couple of pennies here. I do own a CVT tent and have been very happy with it(McKinley). I can't speak as to what the better deal is, but have had a few smittybilt products some decent, some good, and some downright bad. While I certainly like the pricepoint of the Smitty tent, I wasn't...
Scored a set of brand new factory sport takeoffs from a friend (on this forum and others). Exact same diameter, but wider than the current set. Just in time too. The drivers side is finally about ready to give it up.
Sourced the axle locally for about $285(got veterans discount) with...
Just a quick update...No real additional build progress at this point.
Referring to the issues I was having above, I discovered that my pitman arm had loosened up. It was not installed by me and it evidently was not torqued correctly. Tightened it up and traction control has not gone off...
Good looking starting point! My A2 has stalled due to some other (good) things going on, but they are fun projects. I do have a temporary RTT platform that looks bad, although it works good. I have started on my collapsible rack, but a long way to go.
Good luck with it. Keep posting so we...
