    Film Processor Madness

Word! I can't believe they still make that stuff. Even my dentist has digital X-rays now, we've had them in the hospital for 5 years or so. And that was about the last use of film I could imagine. I understand that they're using digital NDI x-rays these days, too. Do they still make...

    Vehicle Fire Extinguisher?

Thats my philosophy too. Except I carry (at a minimum) two 5# 3A:40B:C rated extinguishers, often add a 20# 40A:120B:C extinguisher, and a 2 1/2 gallon PW extinguisher rated at 4A: Plus a shovel and Pulaski. I don't plan on the fire winning easily.

    loaded gun in the glovebox?

California also has a special case of being on the State Capital grounds in Sacramento-not only must the firearm(s) be unloaded, the ammo can't be in a magazine or speed-loader.... The pols want to make sure they're protected....

    Clever blade-type in-line fuse holder

I've found the ones from Powerwerx (good guys to deal with, btw) or Anchor or BlueSea to be FAR better quality than the ones at the local parts stores (including NAPA). YMMV.

    Full size truck pulling M416

No pics handy, but I used to pull an M416 loaded with SAR stuff with my Yukon (also loaded with SAR stuff). Pulled great. I didn't care what it looked like.

    Vehicle Fire Extinguisher?

I've never had a problem keeping extinguishers in the vehicle, even in So Cal summers. And I've never seen specs for fire extinguishers that had maximum storage temps. But, go ask the guys at the fire station what kind they have. Their trucks get just as hot as yours, on the occasions they...

    7800 Vs 7900?

FWIW, I'd get a Vx7 or Vx8, myself... The HT is more portable, but if you're mainly going to use it in the vehicle, get a mobile. If you're going to get the HT, get an external antenna (mag mount or better).

    7800 Vs 7900?

LOL. The guys at the store will answer that for you: Get them both!

UL bare bones 1st aid kit...

How UL do you want to be? How much training do you have? You can make saline for irrigation with a level teaspoon of table salt in a quart of water - it's remarkably close to 0.9% by weight, just like the real stuff. BTW, there isn't much evidence that saline flushing is better than plain...

    Single Side Band

SSB is a mode of modulating the signal, like AM or FM. If you picture a sine-wave graph of the wave form (those squiggley lines) SSB is just one part of the signal - either above or below the line but not the other (or the line). Advantages are effectively about 3x the power out the antenna so...

    Sleeping bags

And 'warmer' is often the difference between life and death. A down bag wet is not only useless, it will self-destruct by ripping out the internal baffles if not meticulously handled. After that, even if you dry it, it's ruined since the down will not stay in position. Further, a down bag...

    suitability of M16 for Afghanistan

Right. A Fobbit who went outside the wire on medevacs - ground and air...I really didn't HAVE to, I am a physician. A Zoomie doc with a CMB. And when I came back in the wire, my work day just started. Before that I was a pilot flying combat missions (that was in the first trip to the...

    suitability of M16 for Afghanistan

Well, good advice but a couple of questions/issues: Why carry a weapon that requires a triple-tap? There weren't too many of the axis power who required double or triple hits (although some did). Did you ever fire the quantities and speed those guys did? Some of the more experienced troops...

    suitability of M16 for Afghanistan

Fortunately 20 round mags are almost never seen in the military, at least lately. And a 30 round mag gives a theoretical 25% increase over WWII :wings: I've seen lots (hundreds) of people shot, with everything from a pellet gun to a 12 gauge shotgun slug center of mass, and survive. There...
