I'd say using the windows for a pattern onto steel would be your best bet. Aluminum would be even better. Get it the same thickness as the window and it should swap right in. Easy to cut too.
I can't see how a flip open RTT would be any better than a flipac at storing it when wet. It still folds on itself and if you don't get it dry then everything inside will be wet as well.
