Thanks for the insight over here as well. I may eventually come around on the width of the Titan swap. It's rare to see one on a mildly built Xterra though. (Seems like every Titan swap is at 4"+ lift, deep offset rims, and 35s or close)
What does a Titan swapped Xterra look like with OEM alloy...
GM Gen IV V8 swap along with a 6L90E auto trans. Cost is likely to be in the $5k range if you do all the work yourself. And it has yet to be done in a late model D2 so all of the electrics would need to be sorted. It's certainly doable, and would be an awesome vehicle with 350hp on tap. But its...
I posted this on the new X as well and am hoping for some additional opinions here.
I broke the R180 front diff in my 2014 Xterra this weekend. I'm seeing this as an opportunity to upgrade. I understand the strength advantage of an open M205 against an open R180, because of the weak R180...
Also, MSRP of the 1993 110 was about $40k in 1992 when it came out. That equals $67k in today's dollars.
At the same time the MSRP of a standard 1993 Wrangler was $10,500 - 1/4 the cost...
Which is a brilliant move because it means the "new" Defender doesn't even have to fill the shoes of the old one - because the old one is still being sold! Frees up the designers to go even more after the leisure/lifestyle image and deliver us something that has few desireable features...
The real question is, at 50k would you take a fairly standard Defender (no lockers, no "off road" package), or a bombed out Rubicon with lockers, MTs, and a winch? Don't forget about the proven residual value of the Rubicon.
Change the battery and compressor... software version should be able to be checked using your diag tool. Not familair with the intricacies of each one though.
With regards to battery, my memory may be off. The OEM battery is huge (massive reserve capacity) and there really isn't any opportunity...
Interstate is the OEM supplied by the dealers. It's a fine battery. I think about 950CCA?
With regards to your intermittent alarm issue, it could likely be the hood switch.
Agreed on the air compressor beginning to die (C1A20 pressure increases too slow when filling reservoir). Are you getting...
That sounds correct. These engines run warm on purpose so the mixture can be leaned out a bit for better emissions...
I might consider putting in the "Freelander" 180* thermostat to cool it down a bit.
At first I disagreed with your post but you brought it back to center towards the end.
Several of LR's products do compete with one another, btw. Discovery Sport and Evoque most notably.
Land Rover has distinctly promoted this concept of 3 brand pillars: Luxury (Range Rover line), Sporting...
That is correct - no low range is a presumption on my part but one I fully expect to see true.
Standard package will probably be 2.0L "Ingenium" Turbo petrol, 8 speed auto, no low range, 18" wheels, all season tires.
"Off road package" will probably be the above plus low range, locking rear...
In poser form only. Base package Defender (small street tires, no low range) at $49k versus a loaded up (including block heater, smokers group, body color top/flares etc) JK Rubicon Hard Rock at $50,255?
Not competition unless you only care about the lifestyle image.
I absolutely love these early 4 doors. I almost bought one about a year ago (1984) but did not have the space to take it in :( It came with another 1983 4 door with the early 727 3 speed auto as a parts donor, as well.
I'd love to have one one day. Yours looks great in blue!
The HP24 is definitely beefier than the HP22, but almost strictly in the A clutch pack. Depending on the year of P38, the 4.6L torque converter is different (massive) as well. This was only on early 95-96 P38s and requires the matching flex plate.
Be careful with some of these backyard...
Be careful with the racing oil (it has zero detergents). The RV8 can be a "dirty" running engine because of the aggressive PCV system and is prone to gumming up lifters and such if it isnt kept clean.
