Man Down! My 100 Series has been totaled

Its hard to believe from the pictures that they stopped writing the estimate at ~$7k, especially when there is no frame damage. Let's hope the estimate from the other guy's insurance suits you better. I don't think it'd be a hard fix, I'd say repair it yourself if the insurance companies...

Awning Width Normal to Exceed Rack Length?

I'd get the biggest awning you can fit to your vehicle, for the reasons Ducky's Dad explained earlier.

Awning Width Normal to Exceed Rack Length?

I think its pretty common.. Not the same awning/rack/vehicle setup as yours, but my SUV has a 1.80m (~71") roof rack and a 2m (~79") awning. Looks fine, the awning sticks out just enough to fill the space between the roof rack and the edge of the A pillar when looked at directly from the side.

4 Cyl 5 Speed Tacoma: Has anybody regretted getting 265/75R16 tires?

FWIW, I drive a 3RZ Prado with D load 265/75's and it drives pretty well. Two friends of mine drive 2TR Hiluxes, very similar to your Tacoma, both running 265/75 E load tires and they move quite well..

    Dilemma FZJ80 or FJ55

If it me in your situation, I would ditch the non-Toyota vehicle in the garage :sombrero: I agree with NCFJ, I would keep the 55 for being rare, especially when in rust-free condition. Plus its a pretty sweet vehicle for camping/fishing/hunting trips. Although I must add that looks like mild...

    fire extinguisher mounts

^^ This is exactly the same spot I have it on mine. Doesn't interfere and it is really easily accessible

    Snorkel Prefilter

I've been looking for one as well, I don't want oiled prefilters as they require maintenance. I would much rather use a cyclonic prefilter. Not the most aesthetic of options, but function over fashion so no problem!

    fire extinguisher mounts

Not a Tacoma, but I bought a 2.5lb fire extinguisher that had its own bracket. A lot of them have their own bracket included, specially the smaller ones. I simply drilled a couple holes into the seat mount in the floor pan and installed right behind the driver's feet, in front of the seat. Out...

IPF 900 XS LED, any experience?

I posted this on Ih8mud but haven't got much info. I came across an ad for a set of IPF 900 xs LED lamps. I didn't know IPF made these, I only knew about the halogen and HID models. Now I never liked the IPF halogens, I think their output is weak. The HID's are impressive, and the casing (used...

Best Way to Monitor a Battery Status for a single battery system?

That makes two of us. I was going to install a Volt Meter after I decided to just use my Yaesu 2900R as a volt meter. It is wired directly to my battery and the screen is constantly in sight. It gives me a read when I turn the radio on, and the option to constant read in the screen. I find...

    Fording Depth vs. Snorkel Height

If someone gets their vehicle in salt water, it will start rusting noticeably within a few days. I don't cross salt water, no one should. Agreed: A snorkel will not turn your vehicle into a submarine. Deciding where and when you cross a water is the part when the driver saves the vehicle and...

Tent Placement in Relation to Wind Noise

If you want to avoid wind noise, whatever cargo you have on your roof has to be behind the windshield. Even further, it has to be directly behind an imaginary line that follows the same angle as the windshield.. This way the cargo is behind the updraft caused by the windshield and keeps noise...

Post pictures of your cab management ideas

The problem isn't their weight-bearing capabilities, its the fact that when you clip the light in and out, the prongs break after a couple of months of use. If you don't really use the light much, then I guess you're ok with it. If not, get Quick Fists.

Post pictures of your cab management ideas

Clips for the Maglite can be purchased anywhere the flashlights are sold, Walmart or Home Depot is a good start. Those clips dont't last though, you're better off buying Quick Fists, which are the clips holding the smaller flashlight.

Little mods/upgrades/additions that make a big difference

I second the Quick Fist recommendation. Even though those Maglite mounts are cheap and work nicely, they don't last very long, one of the prongs always breaks. Plus Quick Fists are safer during a collision.

98' Tacoma 2.7L Slow as Molasses - Common Power Loses?

It might not be a Tacoma. but my 3RZ Prado easily cruises at over 75mph when loaded, even with a RTT or boat on top of it. You might wanna look at new plugs, air filter, fuel filter and the catalytic converter. In that order.

How important to "see" your radio faceplate?

For me, it is. My radio is not in direct line of sight, I have to look down to see what frequency/channel i'm on, but it is easily visible if needed. If you happen to forget to lock your radio or mic, you can accidentally switch your frequency or channel without knowing and probably won't notice...

    Headlight Stone Guards

The lights on my cruiser are very similar to Montero headlights, and are glass as well (as opposed to plastic in more recent vehicles). I'd love to protect them as well, they're expensive and even a light stone strike will break them. A friend of mine had a set of molded plastic headlight...

    off road light housing

It varies too much to know. A friend of mine has a pair of huge rectangular KC lights that match my 8" round KC's. Both use 130W bulbs and have a spot pattern. I highly recommend both of them. Another friend of mine has the same rectangular KC's but he has a flood pattern, and another one has...

    Camping Shade/ Canopy- Brand suggestions?

A couple of friends of mine have Coleman 10x10 Instant Canopies which have held up extremely well to our travels. They take up some cargo space while in the truck, but the shelter they provide is pretty big as well. I know there are a few options with netting, some even have LED lighting...
