    Getting water out

carpets and especially insulation material will stay soaked for a very, very long time. I see you removed the carpets, leave them in the sun for a long while. As well as the insulation. You can pressure wash the carpet to get all the mud out and then leave it to dry. Most vehicles have drain...

PICTURE THREAD: Post up your Mobile HAM setups

At first I thought the little radio was cool, I actually still think the concept is. But for $210 you can get waaaay more bang for your buck. Not to mention you can get the same radio for 80$. They also sell a rebranded Baofeng UV5R for 90$ on their website. They sell expensive chinese rip-offs...

Is your Land Cruiser your daily driver?

I usually take my motorcycle to work, but at night -or if i'm going to be outside until nightfall, there's bad weather -or there's a likelihood for it, or I don't feel like taking my bie, I take the cruiser out. I only have the bike to avoid parking the cruiser out in the streets, anyway..

    Back-Up Light Question

True, but the on-off-on switch will give you this option (both with or without putting the vehicle in reverse) if need be and the option of avoiding it if you don't want to make your intentions clear.

    Fording Depth vs. Snorkel Height

To answer the OP: I cross rivers that run up to my windshield a few times a year, as well as all of my buddies. Most of us have gotten stuck mid crossing, with water covering the shifter consoles, and every single time the engine has stayed on thanks to the snorkels. We completely seal the...

    Back-Up Light Question

The three way switch is exactly the one you're after. Always allow for an off position with lights. So you'll be left with one of the switch's "On" positions with a circuit wired to the reverse circuit via a relay, for the lights to come on automatically. You can leave the switch in this...

    DD with kit or without??

I remove most of my equipment after a trip. This includes Tent, recovery gear, fridge/cooler, tools, etc. The only thing that stays on is the awning, as its used for day trips to the beach and since its below the rack height it doesn't really bother me (unlike the tent). I only leave basic...

What do y'all think of this 80?

The interior is quite clean, if its mechanically sound and you don't mind completely repainting it, I suppose you could rescue it. Correct me if I'm wrong, but you can get a more recent model for that kind of money, right? Those tires will need to be changed though, they seem to be almost at...

What regular tools are part of your camp gear?

Locking pliers, they always get you out of trouble no matter how small a task. One of my stoves' gas knob is known to fail, and when it does, i leave a small locking plier attached to easily adjust its flame.

Who has removed their backseats in a crew cab?

A friend of mine completely removed the rear seat on his Hilux in order to fit his 12V inside and his dog's kennel. A cousin, who also owns a Hilux, simply made a plywood platform that fits when the rear seat is stowed, it give a nice flat platform for both his dogs. Its give them much more...

    Thinnest packed RTT?

I've had a few tents and had similar clearance issues. Yes you can store the tent sans ladder. Two of those tents we're taller than the height limit, so everytime I installed them - which would be a few days before a trip, afterwards I remove it again- I would do so without the ladder. On one...

Help for equiping a vehicle that will be left on a beach

I wouldnt worry about rusting, just get a vehicle that is mechanically sound but don't mind the body. Permanently on the coast, I assure you it will rust, no matter what you do, sooner rather than later. So why bother?

Any Columbia Clothing fans in here?

I use their warm weather clothing, specially their PFG fishing clothing very frequently (I'm a fisherman myself). I mostly use their Omni Shade products, and a few Omni Dry products. Their fishing pants and shirts are awesome, although their fit is too large for me -I usually wear a size Medium...

LED work light on a tire carrier, options to think about?

I've found amber covers on my Rigid Dually backup/ work light helps a lot when working up close to the light or the truck. Led lights are best for these applications, and I've seen a lot of people do the "over the spare" location. I have it on one of my trucks, the other truck has one mounted...

    Geo adventure tents and awnings

GEO stands for Global Expedition Outfitters, its a Venezuelan company which has moved to the US and Costa Rica, I believe. Their tents and awnings are made in China. I suppose these are the same old-model ARB Simpson II knock offs you see everywhere, it is basically the quintessential folding...

What's the best way to use a CPAP in a RTT?

My RTT has LED lights inside and out as well as a 12V socket inside the tent. All powered from the vehicle. These came from factory and can be powered either via a 12V socket inside the vehicle or directly from the battery using clamps similar to those used in jumper cables. Im sure they can...

    Wood or Aluminum Boat ?

We've been carrying aluminum boats for over 20 years. They're much lighter than wood boats, which means they're easily transported (we carry ours on the trucks' roofs). Also, they're much more durable. These are surprisingly stout and can take a beating. Welded ones are better than riveted ones...
