Ram 1500 build ... should I even bother?

One more option. I've seen flat-footed, tubular racks, often for construction pickups, that sit on the bed rail, with the tube frame rack just outside of what would be the camper shell, Leer, ARE, or otherwise

Talk me out of a Chevy Trail Boss Duramax 3.0

Yep. That generation V engines in the Nissans. They drank oil like a fish and crapped out before the CV transmission ever had a chance to. My girlfriend had an 04 Nissan Murano. Damn lovely vehicle! Comfy yet form seats, gorgeous style and colors, and everything worked well. but it was all...

Talk me out of a Chevy Trail Boss Duramax 3.0

That was my conundrum as well, when the transmission went in my GMC. And I made the same choice you did. The questions run the gamut between "will there be a big engine issue in the future to knock me back down?" and "man wouldnt it be good to go 3 more years without a payment!" Like you...

Talk me out of a Chevy Trail Boss Duramax 3.0

I'm surprised to hear the 3.0 diesel is worse on emissions than the 5.3 or 6.2 but I really dont know much about diesel. I would love to get a k1500 gasser but that's out of my reach Knock on wood my 2014 5.3 is up over a 190k and seems to be doing well. Maybe the question for you is...if...

    EV acceptance is peaking

I appreciate your agenda. I do. EV's may soon rule the highways. I really dont care what powers my vehicles - gas, diesel, hydrogen fuel cell, hybrid or electric -, I just want it to do what I need it to do. And if I am going to swap over to any new type of fuel, it needs to do what I need...

Ram 1500 build ... should I even bother?

Hi Chasing. I think I agree with you that you avoid mud and certain critters with RTT. And to your point, roots, rocks, and ant hills too, sure. You're right about all that. I'd like to try one sometime, but I guess I'm really supportive of the fiberglass topper idea and comparing it to...

Ram 1500 build ... should I even bother?

You aren't really avoiding striking the tent with an RTT, just, the tent itself may be easier to strike but you are doing it 7 feet in the air. While its raining... you are really only avoiding mud and snakes and scorpions in an RTT. Mountain lion, I could imagine could climb a ladder maybe...

    EV acceptance is peaking

Very good point. Example: New Ford Ranger regular cab, long bed (almost 7 ft), 4 cylinder, standard shift - NOT available in the US.

    EV acceptance is peaking

I find it intriguing that a car brand historically known for iffy electrical systems is going it alone in the all-electric car manufacturing sector, but here goes!

    Cheap Chinese Equipment

American Leatherman all day every day. Chinese multitools really stink. Craftsman. Old craftsman. New craftsman and other chinese made tools stink. I'll buy Craftsman off of Craigslist before I buy new, now that it's made in China. There are many things I can live with being CCC (Communist...

Ram 1500 build ... should I even bother?

Save the roof of the Leer for a rack and things that will matter a little less if they take a fall from that height. Queen size air mattress fit nicely, sleeping bags keeping us warm. Space under platform was the right height for a couple of short, long, wheeled totes. Stacked 2 deep in each...

Ram 1500 build ... should I even bother?

The Rams are usually allowing a higher "chin strap" under the front bumper but you may be able to take yours off. I know my GMC air dam comes off. If you "level" the front and plan to pack a lot of stuff in the back, raise the back up an inch or so as well. The bilstein 5100 series rear shocks...

    EV acceptance is peaking

Solar power CUT your electricity bill BY $3600 a year?!?! Dang! I'm on Municipal power and that might be MORE than three YEARS worth of electricity bills for me!

    EV acceptance is peaking

Mine's a Ryobi and I have a number of batteries for it because I have a few of thier products. Dead batter in something like that just gets swapped out for a warm charged one. Cant really equate that with current (see what I did there) EV batteries

    EV acceptance is peaking

The last time I recall gas pumps going dry in the U.S. was during the Carter Administration, back when the Eagles were topping the charts and your pant leg was as wide as your waist. Not saying it couldn't happen again, I'm just saying it was a dambed near national emergency. Today, for EV's...

Corner of rear bumper backed into you, is what I think. Straps seem to have held amazingly well, though. Good luck. Let us know what you do

Window rain guards? Small but mighty contribution

2007 GMC Yukon 4x4 basic Florida build suggestions.

Brush guards often cause more damage in a collision. Like the idea of lights, tires and roof rack though. And the other stuff to get out of mud or sand. Maybe add frs/gmrs radio or at very least a cb. I've seen people mount a tow hitch to the front and mount the winch to the insert. Take it...
