DC-DC charger as an alternative to generator?

I haven't tested it as a bought it right before a trip, and now that its all snug and cozy I probably never will. It is a mini and the BT works... although it doesn't seem to get the watts right. Supposed to be a JB BMS. I like having BT for trouble shooting bad cells. It's even cheaper now...

2024 Toyota Tundra TRD Pro, Fully Built - No Reserve on BaT

I've come to the conclusion that humans are very highly prone to addiction, and there are many things to get addicted to rather than "substances"... like thoughts, feelings, ideas, beliefs. Always wanting "more" or "different". Apparently even outrage is addictive... who would have thought?

DC-DC charger as an alternative to generator?

Typically a fridge will use ~300Wh per day, but more if it's hot. Do you ever measure the energy you consume? I have a cheap monitor for this. A LiFe 100A 12V battery will have at least 1200Wh of capacity, and draining them that low does not hurt them. IOW, there is no reason to charge them...

DC-DC charger as an alternative to generator?

I think it's more like carrying enough food on a backpacking trip, so you don't need to kill animals to keep from starving... Still don't know what the OP's use case is, though. Charging the batteries by idling the vehicle on a regular basis is not something I'd want to do... One thing I don't...

DC-DC charger as an alternative to generator?

I can only assume that the OP will be parked for long periods, or at least will not be driving very far. I asked earlier what the intended use case was for energy consumption and driving because I hadn't seen this mentioned. I thought simply adding batteries might be sufficient nearly all the...

DC-DC charger as an alternative to generator?

Yep... get an IR thermometer and point it at a clear night sky... Not so much IR exchange between say, the trees and your rig... but the clear sky sucks up a lot of energy, and anything facing it will get cold. At night in an open area, clear sky, and calm conditions, I've seen a 30F...

DC-DC charger as an alternative to generator?

If I understand how inverter generators are designed... if you get one that has an output of 120V and 15A (1800W), then you'll only get 15A with 12V also. The wiring is sized for 15A. And yes, you'll need a charger that will work with LiFe. You may be able to find a charger that can convert...

DC-DC charger as an alternative to generator?

Sorry, I went back and read more... and I agree with you! It's wasteful to keep the batteries warm when you don't need to. I'd definitely prefer batteries that only heat themselves up in the morning when you are trying to charge. The amount of energy that takes will always be less than it took...

Anyone riding MTB with drop bars?

The unsprung weight of your rear suspension will go up a lot... but I'm sure it will still be a lot better than my utter lack of suspension!

    15"vs 16" wheels

Maybe the Tacoma people are smarter than the Tundra people... but I doubt it. If you don't want it to rub at all offroad, then fore-aft clearance is what's important... when you are turning... not a lift. For fat 35s on my Tundra I didn't need a lift at all. Zero... I couldn't make it rub. With...

Microwave Power use Tested vs Induction vs electric kettle

    (y) I didn't watch the video, it isn't available directly, so maybe check your youtube settings? Just like to make a comment... any inefficiency in turning electrical energy into heat will result in that excess heat being delivered to your camper... which could be ok or bad, depending...

RV & Camper Prices vs Inflation

Hopefully us wealthier folk invested our excess in something more useful than the stock market ponzi scheme.... thereby simply adding to the PE/ratio, and the bank accounts of the oligarchs... Not that the ponzi can't go on indefinitely, so long as people keep shoveling $$$ into it... like all...

Tundra Suspension: Long travel pros and cons? Share your setups!

Pretty sure you can deflate a 37 and ratchet strap it down and make it fit... or cut off the tabs or something. You definitely want a spare, but it doesn't need to be that convenient. I always plug first... and in many thousands of offroad miles, I think I only used a spare once. In fact a...

Tundra Suspension: Long travel pros and cons? Share your setups!

Your use case doesn't make sense at all for LT, IMO. I have a 2" front lift with fat 35s, swaybar removed, front skid, and Ironman FC Pros... which I guess are no longer an option unfortunately. Otherwise stock. It sounds like you are not a bang for buck guy, though! Maybe look into portal...

RV & Camper Prices vs Inflation

That's the median for the country... which is what I thought we were talking about... not your personal anecdote. Do you have some reason to believe that the people on public assistance fared worse? People on public assistance get COL adjustments, plus during covid they got boosted foodstamps...

RV & Camper Prices vs Inflation

Nope. Not on average. "According to the Census Bureau, real median household income reached $80,610 in 2023 — up 4% since 2022, when real median household income was $77,540." Regarding gasoline prices:

RV & Camper Prices vs Inflation

It's impossible to have an intelligent discussion of economics over the last 4.5 years without considering covid policies and their effects. If you think covid = politics, then I can't help you. If you are referring to me, that would be a first. 🤪
