Thanks. I'll let it be known what Stan says. Edit: This will be continued in the pop-up campers forum. String is titled '88 FWC Keystone on flat bed. Stan's response was inconclusive. But I was pointed in the right direction by Pappawheely, which lies in the mounting of the bed to the...

Underdrive, thanks for that insight. You are addressing the exact issues I am concerned about. I guess my next question is what is the difference in the construction of a "chassis mount" camper, and a "slide-in" camper? The grab points must be different. I assume the stock mounting eyelets...

I'm surely not going to bolt it to that flatbed. I have always thought to bolt the camper to the frame of the truck, with the flatbed in between. How exactly to bolt it I'm not sure. I really don't know how much it will flex. I'm not really planning on rock crawling, but we care going to be...

So, test fitted the camper onto the project truck. This thing is going slower than I thought but some progress is better than none.

How much gap between cab and camper and cab-over and roof on an f-550

This weekend, I'm test fitting an '88 FWC Keystone on to a junkyard aluminum flat bed I got mounted on a '93 Ford F-350. I'm thinking there will be some flex? My tape measure says the spacing will be 6" from top of cab to cabover. I thought that would be too much. Hmmmm. I'll post some...

Test your knowledge. Bone stock '93 F-350, 4x4, 4 door, manual trans, crank windows, with this feather light bed on. Whaddya think it weighs? (I had it weighed today.)

It's definitely going to be a dedicated camping rig. I am not yet sure about the mounting of the FWC Keystone camper. I want some storage bins, etc. Step atta time.

Mike, what is the weight and cost of the front and rear winches? I remember seeing your front bumper mount winch, is the back winch similarly mounted? I don't plan on doing anything that NEEDS a winch. But, ya never know. And I like helping others out as well. ;).

This particular aluminum bed is pretty thin, only 1" thick at the point where the tire would contact the bed, the framing structure of the bed is 4" thick, but there is no railings there. We mounted it right on top of the flat bed style fuel filler tubes, as low as possible without re-routing...

Going from the steel bed and solid steel lift gate to the aluminum bed, I figure we lost at least 1200#. I'm going to get it weighed today at the local transfer station. Seems light as a feather. At this weight, it's a hot rod. (Still try to drive like a grandpa.) Clutching the manual tranny...

Finally at this thing. Ready to pull off the lift gate and see if we can stick the aluminum flatbed on. It might be a provisional step. Need some way to put mud flaps on the back of it.

2014/15 Ranger 2.2 diesel with mild build for Central Asian expeditions

Well, I for one told Ford to twist over this one. I've have bought or leased 5 different 4x4 Rangers and 4x4 Explorer Sport Tracs since 1993. Bought them all from the same salesman at the same Ford dealership. (That huge one in the San Fernando Valley in Los Angeles.) Used them as my daily...

Old Jayco- is it worth fixing?

This is a project, straight out. To do, or not to do? Depends on your skill level. Or your desire and ability to acquire the skills needed. Best of luck.

Nice progress! Very interested in steps and/or staircase resolution. I think the door just looks small cause that box is so big.

A very nice built FWC on Ford super duty.

So I send off a price request to Diamond in Stockton, see what a fully custom, hopefully light as possible, utility bed would cost, built to fit my truck and camper. If the price isn't too much more than $7k it was years ago, maybe it would make sense.
