Reasonable priced sleeping bag for tall people

What Nwoods said - try as many as you can. Many stores (REI, Cabelas, EMS) allow easy returns, some even if you have used it. Side by side comparison is great, but not as great as a test night. I'm 6'4" and went with a Sierra Designs Backcountry Bed - SD offers 2-season, 3-season, down and...

Recommended lightweight, highly packable, "warm weather" sleeping bags?

Even if you bag does not zip open 100%, you can unzip it, lay on you pad with your feet in the foot-box, with the bag butterflied open like a blanket. You don't need the bag underneath you. I do this all the time, especially in the seasonal transitions. This way you still have additional warmth...

    Overland Journal: Discovery I, 5-speed

Mdcoa, Thanks for posting those pics. I am this close to putting 215/85 on my LWB. The 225/75's on there now drive great, but somehow seem too wide.

Looking for a Sleeping Pad? I spent a year testing 23 different models.

I've used a Exped Synmat 9 LW for the past 3 years. This has proven to be the best comfort-size/convenience/packed-size combination for my needs. It has a built-in CPR-style pump (which has self-inflaitng foam in the pump section only). I store this pad rolled or folded to remove air EXCEPT for...

    Maxtrax group buy?

That makes no sense!? It smells of artificially-set high demand.

    KGH's Defender

Do you know the brand for these vents? I'm looking for some to fit the smaller windows on the LR African-spec 3-door roof-sides. I'll dig around the Nakatanenga web site...

    Slumberjack Overland Tunnel Tents

Tunnel tents make great use of space, and are very utilitarian. Just make sure you get one with a fly (not single-wall like that Slumberjack) or you will not enjoy bad weather. For the OP in NC (or anywhere on the East Coast) stay away from canvas! I am quite nostalgic on some things (like my...

    Tent condensation

You need better Ventilation, period. This may not be readily apparent, but when you have a big tent, you fill it with more stuff (like wet or frozen gear). Just like you experienced higher than normal condensation with a thoroughly-soaked canvas tent, you can also expect higher moisture content...

Suunto Traverse my backup travel GPS/GLONASS option

Suunto's are nice, particularly for user-replaceable batteries, but yours is probably re-chargeable. Be wary though, Suunto's sensors have a finite life.

    Best sleeping pad

The only time mine has "leaked", it was actually seepage at the covers of the pump and/or drain port. One trip I needed to pump it up twice overnight because it was getting soft, and in the morning I feared a leak and checked it over. In the end all I did was cycle the drain port cap a few times...

    Chines Radiators?

It is really hard to say without knowing the source of manufacture (i.e. facility). Most heat exchanger manufacturers either have facilities in China, or contract out to Chinese manufacturers. Around 2007 I had a difficult time locating a decent D1 radiator, resulting in my parts supplier...

    New must-have Dutch oven accessory?

I cook on my Dutch oven lid all the time, even without this kit. It's nowhere near wok-like.

    Would you ship it?

I say sell it. Buy a driver in Oz that you can't get in your home-market, or pick-up a Perentie 110 to and bring it home with you!

    Best sleeping pad

Several years ago I too tired of large, bulky gear. I would not trade my Synmat-7 for anything, except another one when I wear it out! I used it even when offered a cot, and have never had a bad night's sleep on it, ever. Sea-to-Summit is supposed to release a Sleep System - I can't wait to see...

Roof rack and basket for early bronco?

Measure the roof width from gutter to gutter, then compare to other vintage vehicles - Land Cruisers, Land Rovers, etc. - these all had rain gutters and you may get lucky and be able to use their rack options.

    Jerry cans, which to choose?

You should test a NATO-style jerry can for a few years. IMHO it is by far the best fuel solution. My oldest has been in daily use for 17 years, has been carried upright/on its side/on its spine, never leaked a drop, and no rust inside.
