Flip Pac 09 Tacoma - Build

Power comes directly from the battery on a fused line - through the switch (it's LED so I wasn't worried about burning out the switch, hence no relay) and out to the back - ground comes from the taillight ground and I have another switch in the rear so I can leave it on inside the cab at night...

    Bed mounted RTT

I *had* a bed mounted RTT - I had a buddy of mine machine supports that bolted into the rails so I had two beefy "crossbars" plus on bedtop on the right to support the tent. I'll see if I can dig out some pictures this weekend. -a

Suggestions on which camper for a Nissan Frontier 4cyl

there's an inexpensive way to find out - up here I can head to Home Depot - get 18 x 50lb bags of sand and give it a twirl. you won't have the wind resistance but you'll have a better idea. if it feels ok you're on your way. -a

Suggestions on which camper for a Nissan Frontier 4cyl

:) Never said I was unhappy with the flippac - just the acceleration/highway power of the truck. If you're ever up in the Ottawa area and wanted to see one in person, pm me.

Suggestions on which camper for a Nissan Frontier 4cyl

I've an '09 access cab 4x4 tacoma with the 2.7l 4 cylinder and a flippac. Around eastern Ontario it runs fine but in the mountains out west.. third gear is your friend. I realize the frontier is a lighter truck likely and close to as powerful but if it was to do over again, the v6 would have...

    Vibram Five Fingers

Bought a pair - I walk a bunch - but after about 15 miles in them (not all at once) they're going to go to the Sally Ann. I much prefer my Ghurkees (Neptune model) and I can get three pairs of Ghurkees for the same price as the FiveFingers. -a

on my 22R, I did the breakerbar against the frame trick - two blips of the starter and it was loose. King Kong must have torqued that on for you previously :(

Wildernest, Flip-pac, and other folding soft sided campers in damp conditions.

I had a wildernest and I dumped the mattress and used car camping thermarests instead which removed the waterlog issue I have a flippac now and with the fly, this is a non issue. Both campers are useful but the wildernest tent was just plain worn out. I bought it when I lived out in California...

    Ontario Overland Project

I'm enjoying this one too - being an Eastern Ontario resident for most of my years, I recognize a number of the places you've been. Keep it up and don't let the flamebait/detractors get you down.

Fording the Cabot Strait - Car Camping in Newfoundland

excellent thread! great pics! I used to live in Trepassey for a bit when I was a kid - so I recognized Bird Rock and Cape Spear - makes me think that a trip from Ottawa out the Trans-Labrador and ferry to nfld would be a good way to close out the summer.

Rat in the engine compartment...lots of damage $$$

I'll concur on the dryer sheets - up here in canada, some vehicles go to bed for the winter - my dad has been cleaning up mice carcasses in his westfalia for the last 5 years - except for this year - dryer sheets at the usual suspect entry points before putting it away this winter and this...

    Wildernest camper?

I put a wildernest on a 2wd 98 Toyota pickup back in 06 - the springs on the truck were a little sleepy so I put a set of supersprings on it - they made it ride a lot better. For a price comparison perspective, I paid $1100 for it and in California it worked well - the tent needed resealing and...

    Clutch Warning - 09 Tacoma 2.7l/5 Speed/ 4x4

Ya - I'm not the only one - I did talk to a clutch shop about a stage 2 clutch and since I don't drive the vehicle hard, the recommended staying away from a stage 2 as with easy driving I'd likely end up with chatter. So I'll get the release bearing fixed and start shopping for a replacement...

    Clutch Warning - 09 Tacoma 2.7l/5 Speed/ 4x4

so to follow up on the thread - the clutch was replaced at 66500kms (about 40K miles) - and now at 73500kms - less than 5000 miles later the release bearing started to chirp. it's heading back to the dealership next week - 12 month, 20,000 km warranty on the parts and I'm hoping the labour as...
