    FZJ80 Full-time 4wd good or bad?

i have always been a proponent of part-time four-wheel drive, with manual hubs, and turned my nose up at the 80s. Then I owned one. I still sort of miss getting to hop out and turn the hubs... but now I just stop and stretch my legs and get some fresh air. The full-time case is really really...

    BJ74 in California

Coverting LHD could be done. Would be easy if you had a donor 70 series. Only thing i have left is the dash. Most of the frame is still BJ74.

    BJ74 in California

it's rare because it made it into the U.S. You can buy this all day long in Canada (dang Canadians, you get JDM and better mountains). I know of three other BJ74's in the U.S. So... rare? you betcha, eh. it's a 1988. It's registered on a 1985 BJ70 frame. How grey, you ask? Charcoal...

    Improved Brakes?

on FJ40's, the big brake upgrade is to use calipers from V6 4Runner (1992 is what I installed). They are 40 MM piston brakes and larger pads.

Sorry these are all out of order... i'm just happy I figured out how to imbed images. This is the 4BT80. That's a Cummins 4BT 80, using a 6BT intake/exhaust manifold cut-down, 6BT-turbo (H1C with 56MM inducer), NV4500, Orion, aftermarket intercooler. Oil pan chopped to allow minimal lift.

OK, finally figuring this out. Was feeling pretty dumb 20 minutes ago. 1985 FJ60 with BTB Springs, H55F, and Onan Turbo Diesel Onan L634T (aka Cummins 6A3.4T). This is a 3.4, IDI turbo diesel found in really old UPS trucks. Nice little motor, harder to find parts for these days. The FJ46...

Sethro: I resemble that remark. I'm already daydreaming about an Isuzu 4BD1T/NV4500/Orion powered FJ62 on 80-series axles/springs. The HDJ80 is pretty dang sweet though, and the design of the 1HDFT is incredible; 24 valve; over-head cam; roller rockers; 24 separate intake runners...

    Intro and converted HDJ80

Over the past few years I've slowly become a diesel-nut. My first was a 1985 FJ60 that I swapped an Onan L634T (old old UPS truck engine) into. Was a nice little motor, but I wasn't totally satisfied. It actually pulled better then my friend Luke's 12HT-powered HJ61. Cruiser's aside, I also...

    Intro and 4bt FJ60/camper rig

oh, one more thing... I put my 4BT into an 80 with only a 1" body lift. I had to slice and dice the oil pan, and customize the oil pickup, but it wasn't so bad. It can be done.
