    This forum....oh man

I fell in love with Land Rovers the minute I laid eyes on one when I was 13 years old - the Four Wheel Drive Station Wagon badge on the grill of a 109 just made me think it was the coolest car I'd ever seen. Surprisingly I still feel that way. I bought my first Land Rover in 1972 and have owned...

    Couple quick car shopping questions

Four Land Rovers, a Kyote dune buggy, a Porsche 356A Carerra coupe, an Ossa 250 Pioneer, and a Uhaul camper comprise the current fleet. I've owned over eighty vehicles over the years including about sixteen Land Rovers, 18 BMW's, 6 Fiats and lots of Eurotrash junk.

    Couple quick car shopping questions

I have a 2007 HSE white/black that had 87,000 miles on it when I bought it this spring for $16,700. I've owned lots of Rovers so knew what to expect and I must say that I'm impressed with the LR3 - huge improvement over the Discovery 1 & 2 for a daily driver. Lots more power and typically better...

Land Rover LR3: A Cautionary Tale

I'm in Roswell, Georgia and recently bought a 2007 LR3 with 19" wheels - I'm wanting to switch to the 10 spoke 18" wheels since I'll be needing tires soon. I'm not too picky about a chips in the paint or light curb rash. (Just missed a set of four on Ebay that sold for $260 on Thanksgiving Day...

    1991 Range Rover Hunter Value?

Which color is it? Hunters only came in four colors and the Arran Beige is somewhat polarizing - you either like it or you don't. White and green are more common and more popular (I had a green one) - red is a little more rare but it fades badly (so does the green). According to one of the guys...

    LR 2

A guy I work with bought an LR2 a couple of years ago - now he wishes he'd bought the LR3 instead - especially after he looked at mine.

    which year LR3?

Its a 2007 HSE with the 4.4 liter V-8 and six speed automatic transmission (on street tires) - mileage will probably go down when I put new tires on it with a more aggressive tread pattern.

    which year LR3?

So far my 2007 HSE is doing pretty well with just over 94,000 miles on it. Probably need to take a close look at the front suspension and that's about it. Just returned from a long road trip where I got 20.6 mpg on several tanks of mid-grade gas. Last tank on the trip gave me 21 mpg (315...

    Sorry, I just had to!

That beater is not large enough to get a Land Rover's attention - much less adjust anything..... a 2 LB sledge - that's a proper adjustment tool.

    Computer monitor

I just bought a new Dell U2412M UltraSharp 24" LED Monitor from B&H photo for $279. It gets high reviews and is an IPS panel - best bang for the buck in monitors I could find. I use Photoshop CS6 and am trying to learn Lightroom 5. This replaced a 22" Delll that finally died after a few years...

Duraflame Logs to Circumvent Firewood Transporting Laws?

At one of our camping trips one of the guys from Virginia brought some bags of compressed sawdust blocks that are about 5"x6"x8" - he has a store that sells wood stoves and these are fuel blocks for the stoves. They burn for around 1/2- 1 hour each and put out a pretty good flame. No cleanup as...

    Hot water shower idea...

I use this with the engine running - If the engine coolant is hot it heats up the water as it passes through the exchanger on its way from the 5 gallon can to the shower head. Since my diesel runs cool at idle the water gets warm but not too hot. With a V-8 I think I'd have to mix some cold...

    Hot water shower idea...

I used a flat plate heat exchanger like this: http://www.ebay.com/itm/FPHE-Flat-Plate-Heat-Exchanger-30-Plate-WVO-SVO-/281058565816?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item4170655eb8#ht_1049wt_904 huge surface area in a very compact size - I plumbed one side into the heater line and run water from a...

How to make any campfire your **********.

A small cup of go-juice from the five gallon jug of diesel fuel that I carry works nicely for coaxing reluctant fires to life as well. It doesn't flash off like gasoline (no-boom) and works nicely to get even damp wood burning.

James Baroud or Autohome roof top tent

The Baroud looks a little thin - like you might not be able to store all of your bedding and a few other things inside. The latches and ladder attach points look a little flimsy as well. I have an older Maggiolina that is at least 15 years old. I like that I can also store a small folding table...

    Safari Top Question

There was a Rover enthusiast in California named Doug Richardson back in the late 1960's who did a lot of modifications to his 109 including adding roof type vents to the front lower corners of the front doors to improve airflow into the foot well. He also pioneered the "Demolition Bumper" which...
