I'm going to check out a van this afternoon!

ALMOST none.........there are a few on here! Myself included. Seems this forum is the hub for overlanding an Express. A Chevy is no more difficult to convert to 4x4 than any other van, any conversion is an undertaking. Although there is not as much of an aftermarket following or "kits" out...

I'm going to check out a van this afternoon!

From what I could tell from the pro-access van I looked at is they are based off of a passenger van. It looks like they mount the hatches right to the existing window frames. This could make it easier for you to add a factory window or two, it would look way cleaner than aftermarket windows...

    Chevy Express Windows

I looked into adding some factory windows onto my panel Express. Its not as easy as it seems on the surface. First problem is that the flanges that are pressed into a panel van where the edges of the windows are are not pressed deep enough. The glass will not sit flush with the body, it will...

Anyone done an E350 roof remove/replace

Not much help on the remove and replace..................but your van sounds like a perfect candidate for a high top! The junkyards in my area sell them for like $100-120. Just a thought!

Shower inside or no? That is the question

It all really depends. How long of trips are you planning? Where are the trips going to be, domestic or foreign? For our purposes I chose against it. Just a few thoughts from my perspective: Shower/ toilet eat a lot of real estate. A porta-potty and pump shower out the back would easily take...

My quest to get a van. Looking for advice and wisdom.

It sounds like I ran a similar set-up to what you run now. We had a RTT on the top of a Jeep Wrangler and used it for dry camping all over southern Utah. It was either take the RTT off between trips (royal PITA) or buy a new cover for it every season (got expensive in a hurry). Once the dogs and...

    Kayak Loading

I have plans of modifying the ladder rack that came on my van: I am planning on extending the rack so both of our kayaks will fit up on edge. I had fully planned on ditching the rack, but after the dry run above the its staying! Craigslist occasionally has ladder racks like these for cheap...

    Dealing with Floor Rails

I helped my brother rip the rails out of his passenger van and it was a PITA. We had already removed most of the interior so we used a grinder and cut most of the heads off the difficult to get to carriage bolts from up above. We decided that it was an easier approach than removing the heat...

Best Vehicle for Urban AND Wilderness Travel?

Thats an ex-air force flight line shuttle. It may have low miles but I bet it has spent lots of hours idling! On Govplanet.com it looks like they are going for $900-6000 at auction.

    Age vs. Mileage

I just went through this myself! I just picked up a 2007 AWD Express with 190k miles on the ticker and I don't regret it...........yet:elkgrin: I guess I am still stuck in the mindset that at about 100k miles a vehicle is nearing the end of its life Its a Chevy 5.3 motor, they only made about...

    Passenger Van camper. Window complications?

Gotta move out to Utah! The yards have lots of vans. We always joke and say its the land of the BMW's and MAV's (big Mormon wagons, Mormon assault vehicles)

    2000 miles of nervous nirvana....

I was wondering how much farther you were going to go after we left Maddox. That wind was getting nuts as we left! Thanks for showing me your rig! It was nice to get to meet you and finally put a screen name to a face. Seeing what my build could be (in a year or two) has relit my desire to get...

Desert Rigs: Ideas to help keep cool. Share

My Wrangler has a black hard top and putting a roof top tent up there really helped keep it cooler inside. The tent acted a lot like the safari top. I also need to tint the windows a bit to keep the greenhouse effect down a bit more.

    Side-mount Jerry can holders

Use to see side mounted gerry cans all the time! Really love the look on a Willys wagon or truck.........less so on the newer stuff but it sure has a nostalgic look to it.

    Filterheads.com

Before I would spam other sites with this I would recomend taking some pics since they speak a thousand words.............. I replaced one in a friends 2004 Grand Chrerokee and only paid like $10-15 for a new one at the local dealership. If memory serves me the set up in her jeep fit a bit...

General questions about coating a wood box with bed-liner.

Not 100% sure about the duplacolor spray. However when I took my storage box to get sprayed the body shop had me paint a thin coat of fiberglass resin over the whole thing. the body guy said if i didn't the liner would not stick to the wood long term, and it would take much more liner as the...
