This is fantastic information. Thank you. If it wasn't for the suspension sagging- I'd be fine with pushing the payload a bit. This truck is overbuilt and meant for highspeed off road. When I have the camper on and gear, I won't be going fast so I'm not worried about breaking something or...
Unfortunately, I Can’t wait a year. I have a camper on order. I can change the order for bed size for the next month or two but have to have the truck locked in by then and a truck to put it on by the summer.
part of me just wants to unload the TRX before prices drop anymore and hope I can find...
Its about 20 cents more where I'm at vs premium which is what i have to run in the TRX. Oddly enough, when I first moved to CA in October 2021, I was driving a 7.3L powerstroke ambulance and diesel was about 40 cents cheaper than gas.
Currently, unloaded in the TRX I get about 12hwy and 10...
Here's the calculator I put together with some of my existing gear. Weight of the Ovrlnd is an estimate. Weight of the bikes is estimated high to account for the associated gear and the 60 beers is just the capacity of the cooler. So while some things are estimated and some estimated high...
Great feedback. I actually went and drove a new 2022 PXL today. Drove nice and I could get it for about 100k. So I could go into a brand new one for an extra $10k. Problem is, in CA I have to pay tax on the full value- not just trade difference. So I'd have to pay $7600 in taxes when I just...
Hey all,
I currently drive a 2022 Ram 1500 TRX and have a camp ovrlnd camper on order. Lately, I have been considering ditching it and getting a 3/4 ton where I won't have to worry about weight and will get the MPG benefit of a diesel. I recently found a 2018 PXL that already has a camper on...
Throwing this out there to see what options I have. Located in So Cal (Orange County- Mission Viejo)
I took delivery of this 2022 Ram 1500 TRX on 12/30/2021 with hopes of enjoying it for a while before building out an overlanding rig either on this platform or another. I just ordered a camper...
Yeah I have always done builds that have a dedicated electrical cabinet. My ovrlnd truck build needs to be lighter and more adaptable. I considered building my own portable power station but by the time I get a decent 100AH lithium battery, MPPT, Alternator charging, ac shore power charging...
Good info. I wish I had one in front of me so I could measure it to be safe.
Good info. I wish I had one in front of me so I could measure it to be safe. Maybe I'll just order it since it's amazon and return it if after I measure it it still seems proprietary. I found an old thread on a...
What brand? Maybe I should scoop one of those up since the 5.5mm 10A would do what I need. It seemed the ones I could find that said they had 5.5mm were only rated at like 3A
That’s the hard part. None of those options are 6mm. It seems 5.5mm is the normal size. I have a few universal car and laptop chargers. None are 6mm.
Do you have one that you confirm worked for you?

Those 6mm to 12v have been discontinued by goal zero. Can’t buy them there or Amazon. It looks like there’s a few over priced used ones on eBay and that’s it.

Shopping for a protable power station or "Solar Generator" and find most of the name brands- Jackery, Goal Zero, ecoflow etc... feature what is advertised as a 6MM 12V DC output port. I was set on the Goal Zero because they advertise theirs as being rated at 10A vs the Jackery and other's 3A...
Same here. But currently leaning toward the 10” based on Jay’s input and some folks in the FB group. I think the more stuff I can fit up top keeps the truck bed clear and it sounds like the additional 2.5” won’t have much affect on MPG

Which jackery do you have? I was looking at the explorer 1000 and it looks like it has only one 12v outlet. Plenty of USB’s but only one 12v cigarette style outlet and no other 12V plugs. Actually just looked at the goal zero 1000 core and it has Anderson power pole and 6mm plugs rated at 10A...
I’ve always done can type builds with dedicated solar cabinets and battery banks. I always got 12v loads and chargers where possible for efficiency.
However, my next build is pop up truck camper shell and I’ll be using a tent until that’s ready. So I want a portable power option and have been...
Currently tossing around the idea of doing something similar but with an off the shelf lifepo4 battery vs self built. I have always done van and van type builds where I had a dedicated power cabinet with charge controllers, breakers, etc... but as I get ready to build my truck bed camper set...
