    RTF's 03 4door Tacoma Build

Got a chance to take a day trip over to Alabama in the new truck. The girlfriend and I went over to Cherokee Rock Village near Sandrock, AL to dome some exploring and play around on the rocks. I haven't been there in years but it was nice to see it turned into a park and cleaned up. I always...

    RTF's 03 4door Tacoma Build

First problem that I want to address. Rust! I am well aware of the rust issues on the Tacoma's and luckily have never had an issue. This truck has spent it's whole time in Kentucky. I thought I checked it fairly good at the dealership but noticed this today; The black coating was flaky and...

    RTF's 03 4door Tacoma Build

Figured I would start a thread to show my build progress and to ask some questions. This is my fourth 1st gen tacoma now. My first tacoma I had when I was stationed in California and enjoyed driving all over SoCal to the typical truck spots. It was a completely stock 01' ext cab. I sold that...

    02 Build

Nice looking truck! Have more info or a link to the mic magnet thing? Just putting one one the back of the mic and it sticks to something on the dash or adding something to the dash too? Thanks.

    Cruiseroutfit's 2004 Tacoma - Build Retrospect & Goodbye

Thanks for sharing this Kurt! Just picked up a low mile 2003 double cab last week. It is red also and I really don't care for the color but couldn't give up the low miles. Seeing yours makes me excited about how it will look once built up better. I already have the black wheels, OME susp, ARB...

Fun question: What other 4x4 would you replace your current Toyota with and why?

Kinda different than your question but I decided to stay toyota. Went from this; To this, just bought the other day. Gotta swap over the lift, armor, supercharger, wheels/tires and a couple other things. Gained two extra doors and cut my mileage in half to 58k.

    Canvas Tent?

Doesn't have to be old to be canvas! I have a JetTent and it does everything that you said a canvas tent doesn't. Set up in a couple of minutes, down in a couple more. Plenty of Springbar and Kodiak canvas tents as well. I just chose the JetTent for ventilation due to the steamy Georgia...

    Sam's 84 Expo Build

May be missing something or a post but which vehicle is going to be your "expedition" vehicle, the pickup or 4runner? They both seem pretty similar in build. Are you preparing them differently for their intent or is one getting sold? Either way, keep it coming. Looking to buy another Tacoma but...

Decent Price for 1st Gen Double Cab?

Looks like my search-**** sucks! Thanks for the link. I saw the add for the second link right after it sold the other day. Seems like I will just have to bite the bullet and fork out the dough.

Decent Price for 1st Gen Double Cab?

Sorry for the crappy topic but couldn't find anything on the subject. Looking at a first gen 4wd double cab to swap all of my parts from my extended cab over to. Only problem is that these things are selling for a crazy premium! Looked at getting a 2nd gen but the greater price and then...

    Fenix HL30 Headlamp-200 Lumens

Used mine for the first time last week on a mock search and rescue. Nice even spread without any harsh edges to the light. I used it on the low setting most of the time. I do wish that the high and turbo settings had more throw like when you need it. It is nice to have the peripheral light...

    Preemtive rebuild for a 3.4?

A fairly easy test to gauge the engine is a leak down test or compression test. Rent a tool from you local parts store and check the compression of every cylinder. You can find the "normal" values online or in a lot f service manuals. This will give you an idea of much wear you have and when to...

Cot vs air mattress vs pad..

Bought that XXL Teton cot last month. Pretty comfy. Use an old mattress topper that I had on top of it. Fits me and the girlfriend. You missed out. Yesterday REI had an extra 30% off any single outlet item. They have an Alps XXL version on there for $69. Would have been $49!

The camp cot thread; what's good, what's bad ...

REI is having a 30% off any one item at their outlet store today. They have the Alps Mountaineering Titain Cot on close out for $69 plus and extra 30% should be right at $49! http://www.rei.com/product/851195/alps-mountaineering-titan-cot-x-large-2012-special-buy

    Jet Tent by Oztent

My jet tent has plenty of ventilation. No condensation. You notice the smell of canvas but not at all annoying. Reminds me of the military. Girlfriend never mentioned any thing about it.

Offroad and Overland Deals and Discounts

Just a FYI. The Rotopax code is only giving 10% off right now. The 4gallon was on sale 5% off when I checked early but not now. Unfortunately after you add shipping it is cheaper to buy them from Amazon without a code. They are quality though. Already have one, planning on getting another soon...

    2004 Tacoma - Trouble Code PO442

PO442 is EVAP system leak. Usually is the gas cap but not what the code means. You can try buying a new cap for cheap. There are also ways to test the charcoal sensor if you were bad about topping off the fuel. Smoke test will reveal any vacuum leaks. I was getting 441, 442, and 446. Smoke test...
