That was the reason i opted for the v8 swap, I didn't fully trust the efficiency of the aftermarket ECU operating the MIVEC and intake in an on/off manner. Leo explained it to me and how it could make even more power with proper tuning but it sounded like it was out of my realm, plus having...
Harrop is our electric option, the aftermarket lockers are a lot stronger than the OEM. Not that the OEM is weak but if you're not careful you can shear the teeth on them and it no longer functions as a locking diff. The latest Mitsu diff sold here is still serviceable for now (1997+) but the...
Always hapy to help, don't give me too much credit i've spread some misinformation over the years as well. It's not uncommon for someone to do a thing and have it blow up in their face then come to me for answers.
Them - "I did what your post from 2005 said on 4x4wire!"
Me - "ooh, yeah i...
If you know gear setup you're good to go, I'm doing this myself maybe this weekend. I do have two Hybrid LSDs if you're interested in the one i'm not using. I only opted out of it because i found a 3rd member with the mounting for the driveline dampener, 4.90 and LSD already installed. saves me...
I've owned all of the above ratios (plus others), personally i'd run the 3.15's with a manual because i don't like nursing a clutch on technical climbs especially carrying a load. However my friend just installed the 3.15's into his 5 spd Paj and the shop he hired had a hell of a time installing...
Well these trucks came with a 4 cylinder option in other countries and a DOHC V6 here in the mid 90's so there's the length and width of a V8 DOHC right? A big V8 would be a challenge, this will be tight but probably not too crazy.
Thanks, It's a 1UZ. Seems to fit pretty good actually. Here's a crappy pic from my progress last night, heads and valve covers on. Closer to it's final location
I never updated my suspension progress! Anyway, i bead blasted the control arms and powder coated them black with red/purple glitter. Then I installed Siberians, they actually looked really cool in person but not too flashy. Then i got to thinking about shocks and decided I'd be extra happy if i...
It most certainly is! 300hp through 5 gears and 4.90 finals, it should be sporty. I'm retaining the Super Select and adding dual torsen LSD's so it should be sticky as well. Maybe down the line i'll add a turby but for now i'm just going to be a regular guy.
Just barely making a small amount of progress, i need to fit heads, valve covers and oil pan next so i can decide it's final location in the engine bay
Good price, odd that they cut and welded the crossmember and it looks like they welded the trans mount to the crossmember as well. A simpler way to get the mount in the correct location would be to bolt the crossmember on backwards, that moves the whole drive train where it should be for the...
...also, since you're a Toyota guy. It's not dangerously hard to swap a Yota engine into it, I helped a friend put a 1KZ into his. I'm putting a 1UZ into mine and another into a different friends. Lots of options.
I've done this exact swap but not because of a tree but due to a rollover, I think it took 6-8 friends to lift the 4cylinder body off and put it on the V6 frame. There are some differences in body work that make things stupid but nothing major, the main thing is the firewall/bulkhead isn't...
Lots of miles and now 37's, it just keeps getting better and better. Reworked my bumper hoops, i might cut them off again and make them an inch lower before sparkle coating the bumper to match my wiper arms and winch tackle.
You're welcome! So glad that so many people have gotten some enjoyment out of my project, it's been really fun. Hopefully my future endeavors live up to this ?.
Coming up on 20k miles on this setup and i can fully say now that it is AMAZING! I've now even gotten a chance to drive an equivalent Montero on IFS (37's and rebuilt IFS) side by side. I had forgotten how bad the IFS is on road when it's maxed out like that, I'm now 100% sure i did the right...
