No, it'll be almost as good as stock on the road (you'd be just under the correct RPM at a given speed). As far as revs keep in mind it's a super short stroked engine and it's happiest above 3k RPM, that engine came in trucks with 30" tires and 4.90's stock as well. These trucks aren't road...
I think most people already are down on power or have other issues so it's less noticable. I say buy these things while they're available, might not be for much longer.
I have, LT and I put a Toyota 1KZ into his Gen 1 in place of a V6. I've also put a 4G64 into a Gen 2 in place of a V6. Toyota swaps are more common in the rest of the world, check the global forums (Aussie, UK and Russia)
I thought i had read somewhere that the V4A51 and V5A51 were Mitsubishi made, super cool to know the car PCM can run it. I felt that mich of the MIVEC would be wasted on a 4 speed, i really think the 5 speed made a HUGE difference in the Gen 3 more so than the 3.8 itself did.
It's slightly wider up front but not super noticable, i also have staggered wheel spacers for even more width up front. I'd say the SR front axle would have been stronger if it were built with RCV's like i did this D44. The 44 is an 8" vs he Mitsu 9.5" ring gear and the D44 is a cast center...
Glad you're back Charlie! Super cool you picked up that truck too it deserves a second chance, i had thought about it but just wasn't great timing for me with being a Sierra Challenge year.
You can braze a bung into the pan to fit a sensor then install a gauge, the OBD-2 doesn't see trans temps. Your A/T light went off likely because you were in the wrong gear, with the later trucks not only did they get higher gears in the diffs but the shift is lazy and it gets confused. Re...
Ha Ha Ha, yeah. I'm something of an enthusiast, I've got a pretty good past list of vehicles.
...2 Mighty Maxes, 1 Montero Sport, 1 Delica Starwagon, 2 Outlanders, 1 Lancer Celeste GT, 1 Mirage and I've had/have some Toyotas/Lexus and a Subaru too.
You have a special kind of bad luck with these though, ha ha ha! I do think moisture plays a part though, I've had 24 Monteros and have never replaced a door hinge but i live in Az so there's that.
