You could use a piece of square aluminium tube as a cross bar. Metal supply ships should have a few remnant pieces.

Garvin makes nice gutter mounts. Because of the slope in the roof, you can probably get away with 5 rise inch near the windshield. I used the gutter mounts for a custom roof rack install... The 7 inch rise are necessary near the rear because there is more roof above the rain gutter.

It takes time to clean out the old grease and swap the boots.... But that's about it..... Assuming they aren't already damaged due to torn boot. I don't think I've read about anyone breaking an OEM axle.... Its the aftermarket ones that break.

The snap ring is pretty small and likely wouldn't cause much if any resistance going through the teeth of the gears. Perhaps drop a magnet on a strong line into diff and hope you catch the broken ring? Or put a magnet into the diff so it'll catch particles?

I was at the pick a parts place in the last year, and someone was pulling the brake booster from an 02.... He said that it was a common issue, and an easy way to tell if the booster failed was if the damage to the car was in the front (indicating the brakes went out)
