Since you asked:
I get zero leakage of water in heavy rain, or at the car wash (well unless I aim the high pressure directly close to my tailgate/barn door seal).
In cold, wet, and humid places I get condensation on the tent fabric of my Ovrlnd; running the vent fan on low during the night...
Assuming you have the Toyota bed rail system, pull that off too. My 21 DC Tundra came without and I was also horrified to see the voids, especially in corners (huge on the cab end) that the bed rail would have covered up when I put the bed rail system on. You just can’t see these with the...
Congrats on getting started!
You’ll love the extra head room. I’m 6’ 2” and with an extra 2” cabover can sit upright in bed and on my bench seat that’s just shy of the full bed rail height and just brush the headliner in bed or on the bench when the top is down. An extra inch would be nice for...
This post has all the details. The gray Anderson plug to the right of the red one is the line that I routed along my Dside bed rail to the panel. I will say that I don’t really see the cons I listed in the post as real cons after using it for several years.
This is the Blue Sea switch box...
I have loved my NL DCDC 25. It has allowed me to do what you describe above, but also provides portability (into my 4runner). It’s been rock solid in the 3 years I’ve been using it w/ 100ah Battleborn. I think some higher AH LiFePo batteries will fit it too. This is what Mario at AT Overland...
Glad to help. It’s easy to overbuild/overspec stuff. I’ve done it a lot! As long as you can take a modular approach and add capacity later, if you don’t have to start all over, it pays to start smaller and add capacity later.
Lower load and usage. We’re still a bit stuck in old tent camping mode. We’ve twice tried to go as long as possible as a test. but with normal use. Conditions were in the summer around 9,000 feet and night temps mid to high 40ºs, daytimes high 70ºs to low 80ºs. Often gone for a large part of...
This is an important point I forgot. Its on your roof and you have to hoist it up and down daily. Even flexible panels add up. For me that was a big consideration as I have a bad back and avoiding any extra roof weight was key.
@dirtnsmores That’s one of the two options I might have passed on (the other being the cab facing window) for my way of camping and travel.
I have 25 amps of DCDC charging into a 100 ah Battleborn LiFePo battery and have never needed to supplement it. I have a 100 watt portable solar panel...
Yes, I did. Its’s 10 series 8020 from TNutz. The top is 12mm Baltic Birch with 3 applications of Minwax Wipe on Poly and then waxed. The drawer is Coroplast and the cut down bin sides are 3mm Baltic Birch finished the same and slid into the 8020. Cant see, but its reachable through the side...
Nice feature adds. Looks like the drop off after the Covid boom and lots of more sophisticated competition products finally prodded them to make some changes.
Well, this is what we used to do in the first few months of having a camper.
But we got the camper to have a place to get out of the bad weather after decades of tent camping, so as soon as we got basic interior build stuff done like electrical and insulation, I made a fairly minamalist cabinet...
I’d like to suggest not worrying about it too much. AGMs, and Odysseys in particular, are pretty robust and forgiving. There’s lots of handwringing about charging them out there that’s overblown. Yes they like a good high voltage charge from time to time, but it’s not that big of deal. Buy...
FWIW, here’s how I set up the rest of the water system, which we’re attemping to keep as minimal, but as useful, as possible:
In use, I’ll have two adapted Scepters with quick connects under the cabinet to the right of the Dometic in the picture. I put a valved QC in the line to my counter...
Thanks for all the pictures. That’s a really great set up! I’m kind of jealous.
At some point I’m gonna have to figure out how to do something similar, but our thermal liner isn’t really set up for the bottom Velcro or permanent attachment. However, I think it’s going to be worth trying.
You...
Hey @K9LTW (and anybody else that does this) — how much does the thermal liner get in the way when left up? Do you have the newer style lift plate with the black panels or the older open hinges? Also, does your thermal pack velcro at the bottom too? Mine is the older style and goes behind the...
