Seems like a lot of answers similar to the one I'm about to give. I think there are a number of reasons that the Ram HD platform seems to outnumber the Ford and GM by a fair amount in terms of late model trucks on the trail.
Ram has the Power Wagon. It's a fantastic option for an out of the box...
This was one of the driving factors for me. The SD turning radius is something like 27.5' vs the Ram at under 24' when you compare CCSB trucks. Just shy of 4 foot turning radius, or 8' for a circle, is a pretty serious difference. F150 with the short bed is the same as the Ram 2500, The GM and...
I know literally nothing about welding aluminum past the fact that it's possible, but I'm surprised that you can see the welds to clearly. I guess I would have expected them to be ground or smoothed down. Guessing the aluminum doesn't allow for that as easily? It is a sweet bed though
Thanks for the info, it's good to hear. As you stated, I think for the time being clamps will be more than enough for me. I wish I thought of what you did prior to my order, but I believe my bumper is already off to coating, so I'll leave with it and if I find that I need to recoat or fix it up...
@Trestle I'm waiting on the identical bumper from Expo 1. After reviewing your post I'm thinking that I made a mistake getting the factory powdercoat as your light mounting solution looks like it will be super clean. Eager to see what lights you end up with and how it all looks, I'll probably...
I won't muddy this thread too much, since it's not my thread, but I'll say these two items.
#1 - I work in tech. I've worked closely with those that are college educated in comp sci, from a bachelors all the way to PHDs. In my experience there is little correlation with someone holding a degree...
They paying you by the post? ;)
Regardless of your definition of "engineers", How do you know that none of the aftermarket options provide the necessary airflow? It may be the case that AEV is the only one who tests for airflow, but if they do, they don't post that information on the page you...
Yes. 12v fans are pretty inexpensive for a quality unit, and running a 24v fan with only 12v is known to not be optimal. I'd make that change before I installed one if I bought the knockoff.
I found a video on youtube that seems to indicate it's similar but not the same. So likely a knockoff and not made in the same factory, or if it is they are using some cheaper options on the knock off.
It looks like the knock off is using a 24v fan and so the cooling isn't as good as the ARB...
If you don't plan to modify the suspension at all, the GM trucks will probably give you the best road manners. If you plan to do any off roading and want a more performant suspension then I'd go solid axle (Ford or Ram).
I'd steer away from the 7.3 godzilla engine right now. Seeing longevity...
If you're hanging out in major cities, then yes an RV is a horrible option. I sort of alluded to that in my initial comment.
Now, if you're out exploring national parks, rural areas, etc. then RVs really shine, even suburban areas are pretty solid for them.
I'd never look to go to NYC in an...
I think a lot of the travel trailer vs hotel/airbnb/etc. thing comes down to what you're looking to do. I find hotels are awesome as singles or couples, but are not great for young kids. Airbnb can be hit or miss but seems like a great option for as long as it's around. The biggest plus I can...
Everything else aside, I don't understand this (emphasis mine):
The truck is 100% overloaded. Now, I would still argue that the trucks frame should have had no issue here. That truck is probably a good 20% over payload before the camper is loaded or anything else is added to the truck. With...
Thing is looking great. Love how streamlined it is. Did you decide to just nix the winch due to the intercooler interference issue with the stock bumper?
Outside of the additional maintenance of having to grease the "free spin hubs", MPG gain (if any), and the other items discussed, I'd think the biggest win for the Dynatrac kit would be in their strength for larger tires, more negative offset than factory, and "hard" off-roading no?
I see a lot...
I won't clog up your sales thread with comments about truck size, but long and short is no free lunch. Larger truck is a bit more hassle daily driving, but way better for a family. Harder on certain trails, but way better for road tripping, etc. My truck spends 90% of the time with just me, so...
