Just bought a 96 Montero SR...joining the crowd

Little update: I replaced the windshield wiper blades yesterday. The units I put on are Bosch MicroEdge blades. Again, I got these from www.bmaparts.com for $9 each...and they had it for me on the same day. I believe the size is 19" for both. And it is not just the blade, but basically the...

I can't for the life of me replace a freakin' headlight bulb!

Well i got it done. I ended up taking out the headlight to do it. Lesson learned: you have to push the bulb REALLY hard to get it in all the way. I refused to do this without being able to see what was going on. Once I had the headlight out I could see exactly how well the fit was. And...

I can't for the life of me replace a freakin' headlight bulb!

I'll probably have to wait until the weekend to try again...need day time light. I was ready to remove the headlight, but that looks like a major PITA. I know this much, if I did not put the bulb in, then the ring would lock no problem. So that tells me things are ok. I'm affraid of taking...

I can't for the life of me replace a freakin' headlight bulb!

I haven't even tried to connect the harness. I'm just trying to get the light bulb in with the ring. So basically, the bulb goes in first, then the ring next. I don't see how the bulb and can turn any. It looks like it has 3 grooves that correspond to the hole in the housing. So it should...

I can't for the life of me replace a freakin' headlight bulb!

I spent an good hour on it, and gave up. Ready to take it to a mechanic. Basically, I put the bulb in (which never sits tight), then put the locking ring over it, but then I can't get the locking ring to lock. It must be something where the bulb is not sitting in all the way or maybe the...

Squealing belt since going off roading

Thanks for the clarification...it makes sense now. I was thinking of modern cars with serpentine belts that use tensioners. But our car has 3 belts and it looks like no tensioner. So a tightening makes perfect sense.

So are you guys saying the DOHC SR motor does not use tensioners?

Squealing belt since going off roading

Since the Jan 1st trip to Cleghorn, it sounds like one of my belts squeals for a few seconds after a start the car. This happens when the car is cold. The odd thing is that I had the belts changed a couple of days before the trip. All I can think of is driving through the mud may have...

Just bought a 96 Montero SR...joining the crowd

I'm running 32x11.5 I believe. I have not adjusted for size. But I believe if I adjust, the distances would be more with the same gas usage, so MPG would actually be higher. Larger diameter means less revolutions, so the indicated miles covered is actually less than actual.

Just bought a 96 Montero SR...joining the crowd

I've had a few opportunities to fill up the car and drive. As a result, I have some MPG numbers to share. These numbers are basically with just the driver and maybe 25lbs worth of items...nothing crazy. - From Los Angeles to Big Bear, 110 miles, all freeway, uphill in the mountains, 65 to...

I'm flexible with the timing but the 1st sounds good. And I don't mind getting stuck...so any level trail where the montero stands a chance...I'm down.
