?.....shunt is on the neg side. Better to go with 12/24v sockets so the USBs can be replaced when they stop working BSS is good stuff but horribly expensive. I'm helping a buddy build his system. We are using BSS components were needed an staying away from the assembled panels as much as...

Do solar panels produce their voltage even when the sun is low?

Series / Parallel depends on location. These are our conditions 80% of the time. Each panel may see an hour of sun. For these condition I wanted the panels connected in parallel so I looked for panels with a high VOC. This morning at 8:30AM the panels are producing 0.2% of the rated output...

Do solar panels produce their voltage even when the sun is low?

You'll loose more (if the wiring is sized properly) from series connect panels that are affected by shade.

    1120 AF Build in Norway

Thanks Alloy! The panels im thinking of should have max series connected VOC of 200V, which should work well with that controller, I know the current limit is 30A for those cables so I am just within those limits to make one series array of 3 panels, if not I will need to take one panel out...

    1120 AF Build in Norway

Some thoughts: Depending on the panel configuration and wire (voltage drop) size the MC4 connectors on the controller may not be large enough. We've camped close to/ downwind from people that run a engine (diesel) to charge batteries. A generator would be better in those situations. Large...

(USA) panel options Total Composites or GXV DIY Adventure Kits

"Rated at R-7 per inch" .....you could also add a layer of foiled (Reflexcite) faced bubbled (R-1) wrap which I've seen rated at R-30. Unless you can prove differently (post the LTTR - long-term thermal resistance data) the industry value for PolyIso is R-5.6. "Fireproof" foam has been...

(USA) panel options Total Composites or GXV DIY Adventure Kits

This brings back memories of the time I had a bright idea of using HDPE instead of plywood door skins. Everything was assembled inside at 60F. Once outside in the sun the HDPE lost strenth/buckled then I had to slot the holes to allow for thermal expansion.

(USA) panel options Total Composites or GXV DIY Adventure Kits

Hard to believe a company that has invested so much into the design of a product expects customers to be as idiotic as the videos are. No way for water freeze in winter because it will be full of mud and road salt then in the summer on a FSR it will catch the pebbles tossed up by the tires...

    ground wire & switch legs

I've trouble shot allot of relays so I won't add one unless it will reduce the amount of wire by 40-50%. Switching the neg side is not standard practice........best if a switch is on the pos side so it removes power from the circuit. In this case power can be removed with the switching...

Better way to attach to battery?

Is the wire long enough to run it under the red pos battery terminal wire. You can also flip the spade terminal upside down so it will have a lower profile.

Don't order from Custom Splice if your shipping to Canada. The cheapest shipping option was/is $38.00US with UPS but Custom Splice doesn't tell (they know) you about the additional fees that UPS charges. In my case UPS wanted $19.00US over top of what USPS / FEDEX / PUROLATOR charges. That's...
