OBDR Route 3 - August 2015 (Oregon Backcountry Discovery Route)

As far as dust goes, In my Mitsu Fusu, I have had a few dust issues in the cab and camper areas. If I am on a dusty road, I shift the heat/AC air draw lever over to outside air, crank the fan on full speed, adjust the temp control where you want it and make sure all of the windows/vents are...

    FG84 Camper Build

That's a heck of a lot more sophisticated than the air assist system in mine.

    2007 FG handbrake not holding

On my '92 the Ebrake is on the drive shaft also and I can pull into a gravel pullout and pull on it and slide the rear wheels. I would suspect that the shoes are shot or some internal linkage is off or broken. There's no way I can even move mine much less drive if the Ebrake is in use. Is yours...

Newbie Needs to Know Which Jeep?

There's always somebody else out there that needs recovery so some equipment should be on board. It doesn't need to be set up totally but a good tow strap with proper attachment devices and a shovel I would consider to be the absolute bare minimum. I carry quite a bit more in the 3B. Both Jeeps...

9 Days On The Road With My Six Year Old Daughter

The rig I was driving was over 37' long, not too good for offroading. The Natchez trace was a nice drive. I was out there for the Trail of Tears motorcycle ride.

9 Days On The Road With My Six Year Old Daughter

Nice report, it looks like both of you had a good time. I ddn't do any exploring when I was in Tennessee, I'm sure there are some special places there as well.

    Fire extinguishers

A neighbor has a Halon system in his boat, an IO. Never been used. He uses the hull fan as advised before starting the motor. He used to be a life guard at a local lake, sitting there in the chair he saw a boat on fire across the lake. Grab somebodys boat and run over to pick up the people...

    Fire extinguishers

The van still has the 10 lb extinguisher in it. On job sites, me, making sawdust and having plumbers with volitile glues and flame around, It made more sense to have something larger near.

[YEAR 7!] Quit our jobs, sold our home, gone riding...

Mikes wife Petra was born in Germany and Mike probably lived there 11 years while his father was in the Air Force. Petras father Heinz was having his 60th birthday party and flew out his three sisters and two nephews. (The wall was still up). They came from France, W Germany and three were from...

Problem with EC wheel (mounting and discoloring)

Slipping on the rims? BS. I spent a few years bumping tires in a shop and have had a few issues with my FG. Wheel being bent, tread seperation or a very out of round tire are what comes to mind first. A person doing spin balance should be able to see what's going on.

    The ride!

Once in a while I drove a '53 Mack bobtail, Duplex transmissions. I drove from CO to AL in the FG. The ride wasn't so bad, it was trying to sleep with several diesels idleing near all night that sucked. I built my motorcycle carrier out of 2X6 channel, a brace to the back of the camper and five...

EC vs. ATW for add-on leaf springs/shocks

Springs seem to bring out a lot of opinions from people. I got some grief when I posted that I added a leaf to the four corners on my FG. Why? I was tired of my front axle hitting the bump stops on a highway. It runs at close to the max GVW. I don't think I have ever had a problem with the rear...

Hope Valley, CA...A Quick Two Day Trip

Neat, you wrote up a good report. You have a porcupine, I have a wood zebra to guide my vehicle through the night. It's been there for about 15 years now in the Mitsu.

    The ride!

I'm having some battery issues right now, otherwise you could come up and see what they are like to drive. I would place it about equal with my neighbors F350 4X4 dually without any weight in it.

[YEAR 7!] Quit our jobs, sold our home, gone riding...

Thanks for the report. My neighbors were in Europe in 1985. Visited relatives in France and Germany. Mike said that traveling from West Germany to the East side was like going from a color movie to a black and white version. One of the cousins had a Trabant. He was proud about it. Mike thought...

    Expedition Overland - 2015 Season

I was eating as I watched, not so bad if you have ever had to clean up a bar and rest rooms at closing time after a wild night, or changed dirty diapers. Worked in horse barns, dealt with septic systems. Dealing with dog poop still kind of gets me at times.:)
