    They bought 12 SMB's

Thanks for the vid. OK. Now I'm feeling like a bonehead for not taking the lead on proposing this idea to the Gates Foundation. Or maybe the world could use more than one rescue fleet of SMB's? While they're based out of the Miiddle East, my branch could be based in the Pacific Rim? Hmm.

Upper Peninsula; Marquette to Whitefish Point

It was James Loveridge. Dave took over the shop from him. Both those boys can paddle. And again, its good to hear about the trips going on in that region. Thanks.

Just installed an NP233C 2 spd transfercase last night in the Astro van. Went pretty easy. Here's a link (the first page is a bit of BS, pics and process on page 2). http://astrosafarivans.org/bb2/viewtopic.php?f=21&t=2586

Trip to Baja for some fishing.

Wow, those few pictures sure say a lot. That about covers it. (thumbs up). One of the great things about living in Bellingham, Wa, is that we are half way between Baja and Alaska. One of the not so great things about living in Bellingham, Wa, is that we are a very long way from Baja and...

Upper Peninsula; Marquette to Whitefish Point

"The searchers all say, they'd a made Whitefish Bay, if they put 15 more miles behind 'er". -Gordon Lightfoot, Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald I think about that when paddling that area. Well, more often than that, actually.

Upper Peninsula; Marquette to Whitefish Point

Saw my first moose on Isle Royale about 20 years ago. And don't forget Ryan Island; the largest island in the largest lake in the largest island in the largest lake in the world. And my buddy who used to own Quick Stop Bike and Kayak in Marquette, he kayaked from copper harbor 53 miles out...

Upper Peninsula; Marquette to Whitefish Point

Looks like a great trip. I love the UP, and Lake Superior; Pictured Rocks still being one of my favorite all time paddles (along with so much of Lake Superior), and 12 mile Campground having a some great memories for me. Any review or comments on the shower unit? (or links to previous...

Bike rack durable enough for overland travel?

Have the Yakima version of that Thule I've got the Yakima version of that Thule system. It seems plenty strong. I need to make a rear bumper that swings a tire mount to the driver side, and has a receiver holding the bike mount that will swing the entire bike rack to the passenger side so I...

    Long Way Up....2009

LW Round had great footage of Mongolia and the water crossings on the Road of Bones was great stuff. A lot of the other stuff seemed to be a buddy and his rich spoiled brat friend who doesn't know how to ride, and doesn't seem to get out much. I did finally warm up to Ewan, but sheesh...

    My Westfalia Syncro!

How tall of a tire can you run with that lift? How tall of a tire will you run? Tall enough to warrant a gearing change?.

What about lifting them a bit? Don't think I've really seen one lifted at all?

    My Westfalia Syncro!

Sweet Syncro! Always had a crush on them. In 1991, I was struggling with a way to afford an '86 Syncro. They were asking $14,000. I just couldn't come up with the money as I was going back to college and was a bit (more of) a kayak bumb at the time. Now it seems they are going for...

Theres a Hithc in the Giddy Up

2 recent examples of give & take in used car sales I realize you said its now a bit more of a question of reliability than anything else, but here are two real examples of how we delt with repairs during the sale process. I recently sold my '98 Dodge Dakota. We started with my asking...

    New Four Wheel Camper owner

That's one sweet unit. Congrats and well done. I agree 100% with the set-up break-down time issue. It just increases the mobility factor. So many times we drive and stop for hikes or rides, then end up driving till we're tired and just want to hit a clearing, park, and go to sleep. Thats...
