Is it okay to store kayaks outside?

All sound advice. The only thing I might add is that if you have the chance, support them on the bulkheads. You said you will use would racks to keep them off the ground; try to place the wood supports under the bulkheads, otherwise the hull may deform in the heat.

Wow, what a glorious river. Beautiful slides with pools in all the right places. So many of the ww vids these days are ridiculous, that was refreshing. Good stuff.

    Good paddling discussion forum?

I've been on paddling.net for sea kayaking and boatertalk.com for white water for about 9 or 10 years now, and yahoo groups whatcompaddlers for surf ski racing off and on for a couple yrs. What was your screen name on paddling.net? I go by "Sternsquirt".

    How capable IS a Tacoma?

I agree with Matinjmpr. There is a reason the singe cab 4cyl are inexpensive. For a week, while driving your Jeep, look around the cab to see what stuff you bring with you on a daily basis. Also, if you camp when wheelin'. If you have a book bag you need to bring with you, then suddenly the...

    FWC available in Portland

Didn't you go with one from a smaller truck, like a Tacoma? How would this fit in my bro's '98 Chevy 1/2 ton extended cab short bed, any idea? And thanks for posting this.

    Southeast Oregon including Owyhee River

I agree totally. With so many places to go and explore, I try to shy away from repeating trips. But if they want to go again next spring, I'm in. There's still so much to see in that area. Cheers

    Southeast Oregon including Owyhee River

I'll have to check the route, but I believe there was a washout before Devil's Gate. We stopped to fill up, and Jerry spoke at length with the store owner who goes into the area frequently. He told us of some washouts and alternative routes. If you look at the 3 Corner's video, you see the...

    Southeast Oregon including Owyhee River

spring Thanks for the comments, guys. Yeah, the spring seems to mean "green" and "water" alright. I guess the Owyhee is usually about a 2ft deep crossing, but it was roaring way too high for us to cross. But, like you said, it meant that we had a bunch of smaller crossings thruought the...

    have you guys seen this?

mpg Hey, no worries. It is what it is. Its all about your priorities; where you want your rig to excel, and where you are willing to accept its compromises. I'm not trying to impress or bragg, just record the data to help others in thier research. Some guys are claiming 20mpg with...

    Southeast Oregon including Owyhee River

Jerry of Backroad Drivers Northwest invited me to go on a Memorial Day trip they were doing with Pacific Northwest Backroad Adventures. Once they spoke to the BLM and decided they probably wouldn't go on level 3 trails and/or need low range,so he invited Jen and I along. We'd never been to...

Please convince me I need a Sportsmobile

building vs buying Please allow me to illustrate the obvious: When Brian invites me to tag along with he and his SMB in my Mini Me Sportsmobile Wannabe, I have to decide weather I can go along "as is", or do I have a project deadline coming up? Can I go, or do I need to work on the van...

    Dust in thru rear doors

thanks for the replies. Good info, and of course I had absolutely no time to implement any of the suggestions before the trip. Luckily, the off pavement stuff was damp with minimal dustage. Just a quick wipedown of the rear door rails and styles before bed did the trick as far as FJ (Fiancee...

    Dust in thru rear doors

Anyone have a tried and true method for keeping the dust from coming thru the back doors on extended off pavement camping trips? I''m getting my Guacho couch and camping system set up, but the dust I had on the last couple trips isn't cool at all. I just thru an old blanket over it last...
