air suspension fun and games, LR3

Mine rises up faster at the rear than the front as well. I've changed the front valve black as the front was sinking overnight while the rear stayed up. My compressor is getting changed this month to the AMK as it's on it's last legs, faults out when driving normally. Did you go Hitachi or AMK...

Am I crazy for wanting to buy a LR?

The diesel has 122 bhp and is pedestrian in comparison! The auto one is even worse! The v8 model is a Bugatti Veryon in comparison!

Am I crazy for wanting to buy a LR?

Exactly, create a plan and also consider giving it a full service when you get it, with top quality oils and filters. Also, for whatever reason, ANY car i buy always has terrible window wipers. I would consider a slush fund for repairs etc. I have one for the Disco3 i have, it's been handy to...

Am I crazy for wanting to buy a LR?

Mad? Yes. Yes you are. Land Rover's can be great, or terrible. Sometimes this can happen in the same hour, or journey.. They are not a Toyota, accept that fact and you will be half way there. I got told by a much older LR owner when i got my first one at 21. "Land Rover's love maintenance...

    Oxford and Cambridge Expedition

Yeah, it's a shame that they are both gone. 2 legends of the land rover world. I'm trying to buy a 1949 series 1, however the guy is being an ************. It's far from original so i'm going to restore it to how i want. The colour shall be Oxford blue, and i'll get a dark blue canvas top to match.

I like mine as well. So far it's proving good for light but the end caps are showing signs of corrosion after 9 months...

    Oxford and Cambridge Expedition

I got my info from Land rover's own FB, there was a story from Tim Seller about the first overland trip and at the end, it talks about what became of both cars. https://live.landrover.co.uk/adventure/impossible-journey?cm_mmc=Facebook-_-Impossible%20Journey%201-_-PA-_-FLPP

    Oxford and Cambridge Expedition

Bump to correct myself. Both cars I speak of are replica models. The original cars are both dead. The Cambridge one is in a ravine in eastern Turkey after an accident. It was being used on another expedition at the time. The Oxford one ended up at St. Helena and has been broken up long ago.

    Oxford and Cambridge Expedition

Both cars still exist in their livery and paint colours. I believe they both are owned by a Land Rover collection and are preserved indoors to keep them safe and intact.

NAS LR3 build with an overseas twist

How are you getting on with the seat covers? Are they just front seats or do you get back ones as well? Look very smart and may be getting added to the list of things to do to mine. I do owe you a beer or 5 for the tool kit idea. It's very comprehensive and i think it would be a good thing for...

A family camping trip in a series 1

Watching this with great interest. The patina on that paintwork is lovely, do you have any interior shots? For those who haven't seen it. This is the first overland, the book is also worth buying as it's a great read. http://youtu.be/OS8G-103ZRE Spare about 38 minutes to watch it. I'm...

Smitten by Land Rover, Heart says yes Brain...ehhhhh

I only went genuine after i had a set of front lowers and steering inner arms wear out in 17k. The cost between pattern parts and genuine parts can be very little if you build a good relation with the parts guys in the local dealer. The compressors can be fixed, if you can get the pipes out...

Smitten by Land Rover, Heart says yes Brain...ehhhhh

As above. LR3 would be the best bet for your needs. You can find a nice one well in your budget, leaving a few grand spare to cover some initial repairs and also some nice mods. I wrote up a guide for what to look for when buying one a while ago. Made it from my own experience of buying and...

    LR3 front brakes aftermarket choices

Why? Lol. I had yellow stuff pads on my fronts. 19k and they were needing changed. I have upgraded the front calipers to the 4 pot Brembo calipers as fitted to RRS models. Much better braking but I'm stuck to 19s for OEM wheels or 18s for the compomotive alloys. The 3 is a hard car on brakes...

    Front end dropping overnight

Front valve block is leaking. Mine did the same. Easy to change though. Jack car up and support at the front, both sides. Remove wheel arch and also wheel arch liner. There are about 7 or 8 of the little black pop out holders to remove from the liner. The valve block is located on a cross...

Looking at getting into a LR3...maybe

From this and likely reading other places. You will know some can be great, others can drive you to the drink. Haha. At that mileage, see my list for what will likely need doing. It lets you get an idea of what to look for/listen for. Also lets you ask questions to the seller for what's been...

Looking at getting into a LR3...maybe

The LR3 is a decent platform. Maintenance stuff. They run a lot of computers etc, so they like a good electrical supply. A lot of issues can be traced back to this issue. General rule, a battery is good for 5 years. You can get the make date stamped on the Neg terminal. Over 5 years and it's...

Overland Journal Project Land Rover Discovery 4 (LR4)

I have Terrafirma rock/tree sliders on my D3. Imho, having gone from the factory side steps to them, i have lost about 2 inches of step and feel they don't give enough room to be an adequate step. I have long considered cutting the bars off and getting them remade with the extra width but also...

Post pictures of your Land Rover.

Few from the off road day today. Kept it sensible as it's had £1300 spent on it for new tyres and suspension work so was happy not to trash it. Have a unknown noise coming from under it though. Comes and goes so going to need to investigate that further.

    Joining the club (part 2)

Welcome to the D3 club. Fellow silver owner here. The xenon's are a great headlight, you can improve them further, look for Xenon D2S spec bulbs. What mileage is the car on?
