Nice build, nice video tour. I wish more sellers would do this. I wouldn't use the term "Ultimate" as long as it has that hideous Pro Master front end though...LOL! :sombrero:
Hmmmm, good to know. My concern with the DRW is the clearance between the two tires wouldn't allow me to air down very much. On my Motovan, the combination of great suspension and 25 psi allows me to have a pretty smooth ride and good speed in the dirt. I'm looking to get the same with a 14ft...
I intend to build something along these lines someday, but I'll use a box truck. The ease of working with flat walls and right angles, combined with the need for much fewer windows than a bus typically has makes the decision for me. I'd rather cut a hole and add a window where I want it than...
Do you have a go-to plan for conversion to a SRW on the E450 series? Is it just a matter of suitable wheels and tires? Do you drop the funky spacer hubs off the front and go to a wheel with normal backspacing?
Use theses? http://firematic.com/irok.htm
This is great to know in case I buy another van down the road. I insisted on finding one with cruise control, power windows and locks, and air conditioning because I didn't want to retrofit it all. (I also needed tall rear doors, which significantly limited my search.)
I agree that you often get what you paid for, but this is a (roughly) $10,000 top! CCV is not a low end supplier, and they happen to be the only supplier for the Astro/safari as mentioned above. Yes there are numerous documented cases of unsatisfied customers, but also satisfied customers...
So you're completely ditching the stock tank and going with the rear mounted 55 gal tank instead? Are you using the stock gas tank location for installing other stuff?
I have the same size tires on my Ford van and I use Trailhead Deflators to air down to 25 psi in the dirt. This seems to be a comfortable spot to mellow out the washboard, increase traction and still keep me safely on the bead. It also allows me a margin to air down farther if I get stuck in...
Yes that would give you some more fine tuning in spring rates. I've never used them but I've seen them around plenty.
FYI my van is a 2WD running the WeldTec Octillo Cruiser kit with bent beams and modified radius arms plus the longer progressive springs for the increased travel. I don't...
If there is a problem, like that it leaks, or it whistles because it wasn't meant to go 70 mph, or it constantly packs with snow and doesn't vent etc...then you're left with a 7 inch hole in your roof. I'd also lean towards something that had a way to open or close it. You might not want it...
