I have the FR rack but am not familiar with your year LR, mine is 2007 HSE LR3 but, I do like the FR rack. Lots of real estate up there to fasten things to.
I can get three 20 liter (5 gallon) original Nato petrol cans for the cost of one 3.5 gal Rotopak. Which is 5 times the fuel capacity, so for me the math is a no brainer.
I have been purchasing light easy to wash and dry clothing for a few years and I find it not at all difficult to travel light. I don't mean backpacking, I'm talking international travel to Europe, South America or south Africa.
I travel with only one relatively small bag, a carry on type thing...
My little Campfire in a Can has no comparison to your ammo box. That is a great idea and for the price and the flame and effect it creates it is a super idea. Wish I had thought of it before getting what I now have.
You are to be commended on your originality and fab skills. Perhaps a bag to...
Read through the whole thing and I have to say that young lady is a great travel companion and you are very fortunate to have such a willing and pleasant partner for your travels.
Great write up and photos.
Thanks
Yes the well maintained aspect is more important than a locker...for now. If you can find out where it was serviced and talk to them, sometimes the PO might not tell you all the things that might cause you issues down the road. My 2007 HSE has the locker and it is probably important but I...
I would like to know the source and perhaps the part number of the weld-on hinges. I am in the process of a fuel carrier for the underside of my LR3 and have sourced Unistrut hinges for their mass and strength but the ones you are using would better fit some other projects I have in mind.
tire carrier
I have to say for a man that claims not to be a welder or a professional you have done a spectacular project. I do appreciate your documenting the steps that you have taken. I also often cannot find things that I want and make them too.
The integration of the carrier to the stock...
My 07 LR3 comes with full size spare. Apparently some of the Rovers have the tiny spare, totally useless unless it is used for running to the mall and getting groceries.
I now have the spare on a Tactical 4X swing away tire carrier so that space is empty and I am trying to decide what to use it...
I have a Tactical 4X bumper on the rear with swing away tire carrier and an ARB bumper on the front with a 12,000 Warn winch. Not going to cheap out on some cheap *** Chinese winch from HF that might fail when I need it most to save a few dollars. My LR is worth it.
I found that my FR rack had a bit of a whistle above 45 mph so I made a wind deflector for it and all is fine. Some don't have the issue, guess I was just that one guy.
Front Runner makes a rack for the LR4 as they do the 3. https://www.frontrunneroutfitters.com/en/us/roof-racks/slimline-ii-roof-rack-kits/land-rover-lr3-lr4-discovery-roof-rack-half-cargo-rack-foot-rail-mount-w-table-opening-front-runner-slimline-ii.html
It will support a RTT and more. Not sure...
Definitely have ColoDisco check it out. I t doesn't sound like there are many 'bads' for the milage. Sometimes it is an emotional thing, especially if almost everything is there for you. The key and floor mats wouldn't be a deal breaker for me.
