Solar would be a great option down the road for me. I think it would really round out the system. However, reality tells me, I can't seem to get more than 4 days at any given time on the trail.
I get a consistant 12-15mpg and I have:
35's
4.11's
4 speed
good compression
Jim C. rebuilt carb
FJ60 electronic ignition
patience to keep it timed and tuned and the valves adjusted.
I had a few tanks at 17mpg... a loooong time ago. Can't seem to break the 16mpg mark now. It drops to 10mpg...
My box lid is on quick release draw latches and hinged so getting into the box is very quick, I would rather others didn't have unauthorized access... mainly my 2 year old boy! :D
Not too sure, I try not to keep track of costs too closely. I only buy an item when I have the extra cash for it, but if I had to guess (I am an ebay junkie)...
Shore power -$20ish
Charger -$70ish
Battery terminal covers -$12ish
Battery switch $25
Project box $8ish
Fuse/switch panel $50ish
12v...
I have been wrapping up some projects on my homemade trailer build. I am a few cables short of finishing up my electrical system.
From right to left I have:
Shore power inlet
2 bank charger 10amp
2 100+ AH batteries
I will create some cables to the switch/isolator
Blue Sea 1, 2, OFF, Both...
Thanks, pulling the gases out is a concern and worth the effort of installing a push/pull combo and getting lots of fresh air in there. I bought the batteries not full realizing the advantages of the AGM style sealed batteries. At this point I will run them till they die and upgrade down the...
Thanks DHW, I am getting there...
I still need to:
Create new battery cables for the switch and grounds to frame
Create a hot lead to the switch/fuse panel
Wire up accessories
Install a 110v fan to the shore power circuit in one of the box vents to draw cool air through when charging...
You forgot it will also eliminate all possible future rust, flat tires, and speeding tickets... (oh yeah, the fj40 eliminates that possibilty anyway) ;)
I agree... sort of ;)
A good snatch block and knowing how to use a winch properly will get you out of most situations if you have a running engine and power still.
However, if you can afford a 12k... you will be bettering your odds of a clean extraction when you really really need it. The low...
DWH-
What would you recommend? Combining the two circuits for a 10amp charge? How would I swap from one battery to another, manually?
Thanks for sticking with me through these newb questions.
Thanks guys, I bought an Isolator switch for: Off, 1, 2, or Both. This is what it looks like...
DWH, I have 2 110ah batteries that are deep cycle- flooded variety. I use an ARB fridge and I have LED's exclusively.
Mike, are you saying only charge the batteries with the switch turned off? I...
I agree, you are spot on... that is relatively nothing behind a vehicle for what you are gaining. 800-1000 lbs for these little guys is stil considered light in my book! :D
Wow, that was an awesome read. I had to read it a few times. I am using a Guest 2611A 5/5 charger for 10amps total.
My hope is to run my LED RTT lights and the fridge for 3-4 days max without recharging with shore power.
Thank you both. I think after doing some more reading that I am going to run the batteries seperate, and isolate them with a marine switch. Then I can charge them seperate, and run them one at a time and in theory, I can be charging the one that isn't being used while using the other.
I have...
So I have two marine batteries on my camping trailer. I recently installed (but haven't hooked up yet) a 2 bank battery charger. My questions are simple I hope...
I will obviously hook up each battery seperately to the charger... one battery per bank. However, I was wondering if I connect the...
