    A Desert Wander...

Fantastic pictures and trip report! Thanks for sharing these. Any advice for someone that hasn't visited the Cedar Mesa area and would like to view some of these dwellings and pictographs? How difficult is it to find them?

    Bicycle rack for offroading

I like this design, do you have a link to any additional info or pictures? Recently I got a Yakima Holdup but don't like the fact that my bike is wider than my SUV. Removing the front wheel as on your rack would fix that.

    Rivet nuts??

If you're cheap like me and only have a few rivnuts to install, you can improvise a tool that works really well: http://www.expeditionportal.com/forum/threads/140475-Rivnut-options?p=1806880#post1806880

    Living Space Gas Cans

I recently bought a 4GL Rotopax, filled it and kept it for a day in the back of my SUV. This was just temporary until I made a roof rack for it. I could smell no fumes at all, though the can definitely expanded and swelled as the interior heated up. Rotopax are made in Utah, and so far I'm...

    outback97's 2006 Xterra

One of the reasons I wanted an Xterra was to be able to carry a mountain bike inside, something I can't (easily) do with our Subaru. Because my bike is really big, most of the solutions I saw online wouldn't work very well, at least not if you wanted to be able to slide both front seats all the...

    hitch mount tire carrier

10 gallons of *water* is just under 84#. 10 gallons of gasoline is about 20# less. But it still adds up quickly!

    hitch mount tire carrier

I would be surprised if a 33" tire plus rim weighs less than 80#. Most 33" tires alone are 50-60. I think your guesstimate may be low unless you're not including the fuel in your total. Or do you mean spare plus cans = 170-190?

    Nissan Photos - post your's

Thanks, glad you found it. The mud flaps work well for my purposes. Much better than the hard plastic things that crack at the slightest provocation.

    outback97's 2006 Xterra

Thanks for the link, I still need to do that. Not sure if I'll go with that kit or put something together myself. No, unfortunately I wasn't able to attend although I wanted to. Must have been somebody else. We have done some smaller day trips out to the west desert and I like it out there...

    Cooper Discoverer S/T Maxx

Regarding tire weights, here's a link to a spreadsheet that I put together with another member on thenewx.org: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1hYgUsMXl9xdSpU8c5nwW1CFB8axXrZf6PVyw2wi8nEY/edit?usp=sharing Listed are some popular AT 32" and 33" sizes for 16" rims. It may be helpful for...

Cool, thanks! Ditto for if you come through SLC. I love the blue, just saw one on the way to work this morning.

    Rivnut options?

Great suggestion on the nylon bolts, I wouldn't have thought of that! In this case both Rivnuts I installed are being used to hold my skid plate on. And

    outback97's 2006 Xterra

I have to say it was satisfying solving a problem with a large hammer. Of course the problem was caused by me (breaking off the bolt extractor). Definitely a learning and swearing experience! Looking forward to our second trip on the A/T3's this weekend, going to do some desert exploring...

    Rivnut options?

Thanks, another poster recommended that too. I don't have a welder but maybe some day that is a tool and skill I will possess. Thanks. As mentioned I don't have a welder, and in this case the OEM weld nut was inside a somewhat enclosed area without a lot of clearance. Another option that...

    Rivnut options?

I did not have an installation tool, I put this together instead: Worked well for the two I had to do. I couldn't find the tool locally and wouldn't have paid much for something I only needed to use 2X. Now, if I end up doing another project using these things...

Water Jugs?? What do you use?

Aquatainer 4GL: https://www.relianceproducts.com/products/hydration/78.html Easier size and weight to manage than the 7GL one, plus you can always stack them if you need more.

    Rivnut options?

Great suggestion, guys, thanks! I did not chase the threads but I did test fit a bolt in before reinstalling the skid, and all seemed to be working smoothly. Will watch for that in the future though.
