look around the marine shops for anything in any size or shape
West Marine and other places have great deals.
Honestly I am suprised we don't have more crossover between the marine world and the overlanding one.
Used is $135,000.....that is more than the Sportsmobile sitting out front, way more.
New is only 27,000 British Pounds...that isn't a bad price at all.
So the thing to do would be to move to where I could by a new one :)
It was a Defender 130 4 door truck body with bed.
My wife actually commented and so did my son's that they liked it....that is usually all I need to start shopping :) If only we could get one here in the US!
Just imagine with a flip pac setup, how cool would that be?
Nicely done, looks like a fun group of people and of course help with a trail repair is always welcome.
And of course we never get enough pics in a trip report :)
Well it may not be the best excecution of an interesting idea..
however I gotta say that at least we are part of a growing market segment with lots of creative movement.
Best of all there is always room for improvement on this idea to make it something worth buying.
Great report and nice job with spreading the word to the other folks staying there.
Sometimes the convenience of a paid campsite is worth it.
I used to keep my FJ pretty much ready to roll (even 1 set of clothes all the time) just to cut down on the forget factor. Then again with only a 5min...
Hey anyone here in Houston and want to go check it out in person?
I like the sloped floor/drain idea, the use of space and the design is funky enough to be cool.
At least we are in an expanding market segment and not a dead one.
I will be there and with at least 1 kid in tow to help out...I will also pass the word amoung my son's Boy Scout Troop in case they want to help and make a camping weekend out of it.
Thanks for making this happen!
Great job, this is a great that will be bookmarked by a ton of people as a great example of what can be done with some time & skill
Excellent!
Any issues getting in and out, or with not being able to fully sit up when sleeping?
I know for my wife the problem would be clothes changing and night...
after running various laptops for a number of years on horrible washboards I can say that my worries about harddrives is now nil
I love the little Acer netbook I am using, the only downside is when running Ozi Explorer & Delorme Topo the refresh can be a bit slow (not much really) when I want to...
We don't comment on the appearance/style/astethetics around here as I understand things. Function/safety yes but if a person wants to take a sawzall to their rig or drive something more trail carnage than an Iraqui taxi cab then that is fine. If they want to rattle can it cammo that is fine.
As...
A man can build his rig as he sees fit, no doubt about that.
However posting that build on a public forum invites a variety of comments.
On Expo we hold that any build discussion be civil and focus on quality of function and safety, just because it isn't pretty or how a person would have done it...
very cool trip report...that is worthy of the "expedition" title as you are using your rig to do some very nice research and keeping the history alive.
Amazing to think how many people would have no idea what they are passing by.
thanks!

I just managed to get this together while on the road supporting some disabled bike riders.
The power step/slider isn't finished yet but at least you get to see a little bit of it in action. I will be back at Rock Slide Engineering Monday and we hope to have...
My Hannibal went through:
-60 mph winds with nothing more than some flapping
-22deg temps & a foot of snow on top..the only issue was trying to pack it away semi-frozen :) a bit of time in the sun made it easier
-100 deg night time temps (canvas makes cool shade and being high up helps catch a...
Yeah the Titan....it failed completely on the Expo Trophy event and really taught me a lesson about trying to space some space vs using quality products.
Just so everyone understands...my favorite thing about the ARB X-jack is that I can use it with the air compressor. I never use the exhaust...
I have used a number of different laptops (Toughbook, Toshiba, Fuji) and now run an Acer Netbook and love them all.
GPS info is from a Globalsat B353 usb puck that cost $40 to your door.
Then I split the signal with GPSGate into virtual comm ports.
Mapping is done through Ozi-explorer with free...
Looks like a great trip...
I really dig outings with the kids so they see the big wide world out there.
How do they deal with the long highway hours? Do they sleep ok in the rig on the overnight parts?
Thanks for posting, that area is not bad a haul from Phoenix and this makes me want to go...
wow....that is beyond understanding for me...it is hard to really get your head around what he has put himself through.
Thanks for posting the video, very cool
