In that pic the owner removed the back seats that flip forward and has put storage boxes so support his mattress. Hope all this helps. But the Xterra is a great vehicle also. Let me know if you need anything else.
The 4 runner floor is uneven when the front seats are folded down. So I had to build an elevated platform to make it even. I built something like this.

The flexible panels already have a high heat issue when flat mounted which causes efficiency drop and will fry cells on some panels. I would be afraid mounting it to the hood would greatly increase that with the heat from the engine rising through the hood.
Also build a 4x4 on the Ford site. If that is a picture of a 4x4 then it is in seriously need of a lift. Looks to have about 6 inches of ground clearance. If that is the case a lift is pretty much mandatory.
There are how many engine options for the F150? And this new Ranger has only one engine and in some configurations will probably cost more or equal to an F150 configuration. An as I mentioned the Ranger doesn't look to even have a longer bed option with the crew cab option. They really stick...
I agree but only if it's on the level of build quality as the Australian version. Most manufacturers water down the US versions, for example the Hilux vs the Tacoma. Not even close to the same level of tough or capability in the Tacoma
