    AR: DPMS or Del-Ton?

Building one is pretty fun :) If you don't really have a preference on what you want for features, than buying a complete entry level one is the way to go. Personally I wanted my current AR to have the shortest no-sticker barrel possible and a long forearm for a better sight radius and hand...

Two Aux Tanks for the JK

They make a 2-door version of the long ranger fuel tank....actually a few different versions. I don't know how I would wire it all up. The easy answer would be to use a simple compact transfer pump from the aux tanks to the main tank. It would be the most primitive system, but would also only...

    Raptor vs Power Wagon

Energy is Energy. It has to go somewhere. There is a reason you don't see trophy trucks running around with only a frame rail. Those vehicles are built with space-frame jungle gym type construction for a good reason. It really doesn't matter if you install bigger shocks or bumps, at some point...

Why the Jeep Wrangler is the new Defender.

I'm still bummed that the new 2.8 CRD wranglers, and the new 3.0 V6 VM diesel that will probably find its way in the chassis, cannot really be used for world wide travel. The requirement of ULSD is just a total pain in the rear. Do most other companies, like toyota, offer 'other' diesel...

Ways to Increase the Jeep JK Payload

Thank you for posting some real world info. Do you have a vehicle weight? Front and rear weight? That would be really valuable to stick in this thread. The only part I disagree with is the front end issues. There have been known tube strength issues on the D30 and D44 front ( basically the...

Ways to Increase the Jeep JK Payload

I heard the stock JK lasted less than ONE circuit on the test course they used to develop the J8........when the J8 was done it would do something like 3+ circuits and then the testing was stopped. It was a big difference, much bigger than just dirt roads or not. I do think that the wrangler...

Ways to Increase the Jeep JK Payload

The J8 is rated for a COMPLETELY different set of operating conditions. It's rated for its GVW and tow ratings basically on un-paved roads as far as I understand it.

Ways to Increase the Jeep JK Payload

This was posted by Mhiscox over in the camper section.....good real world info from a longer term heavy JKU based vehicle. Originally Posted by Metcalf Hello, VERY cool project! Thanks. It all turned out pretty trick. I'm trying to collect some data on heavier payloads in JK Wranglers for...

Why the Jeep Wrangler is the new Defender.

I think the 3.0 diesel may happen in the aftermarket this year or next for the Wrangler....maybe as early as Sema this year At this point, I would probably sell a kidney to get one.

Hello, VERY cool project! I'm trying to collect some data on heavier payloads in JK Wranglers for another thread in the Jeep section.... http://www.expeditionportal.com/forum/threads/57132-Ways-to-Increase-the-Jeep-JK-Payload Do you have a total weight and front/rear distribution for your...

Why the Jeep Wrangler is the new Defender.

With the 2013 Grand getting the 3.0 VM/Fiat diesel in the USA its more promising than ever. Just having the parts for the new 3.0 diesel available in the USA will be a big boost to the aftermarket. If you can swap the Hemi from the Grand Cherokee....you can swap the diesel from the Grand Cherokee

Ways to Increase the Jeep JK Payload

Another VERY good development case to look at would be the Earthroamer XVJP. That was probably one of the most tested civilian heavy weight JK's

Ways to Increase the Jeep JK Payload

It is interesting that they list a 2nd GVWR. The J8 3-door and 4-door according to JGMS is...... 7416lb GVW 4850lb Curb Weight 2566lb Payload 7716lb Trailer towing I think everyone needs to keep in mind that carrying around weight over paved roads just across town and down 500 miles of...

What i would build if $$ was no object

I'm not saying total lemons don't happen! The other thing I would like to touch on is using a vehicle within its intended purpose. Far to often you tend to get a hyped up over-rated vehicle than a watered down overbuild vehicle. The classic example I use is the 80 series landcruiser. Take...

JK 4-door to 2-door long wheelbase conversion.....

Does anyone have a measurement from the top of the windshield to the rear most point on the hard top on a 4-door JK? I'm trying to figure out some mold size and design stuff. Thanks.

    Dodge Cummins NV4500 to G56 - DONE!

VERY COOL! Thank you for going through the extra effort to check those things out. Being able to use either a 2wd or 4wd version will make finding a transmission that much easier.

What i would build if $$ was no object

For me its about trying to strike a balance between off-road capability, size, and reliability. I feel that once you start changing a vehicle away from stock, even if the parts are top quality, it's VERY hard to get the same long term durability and reliability of the same stock part. The...
