Hope everyone enjoys the thread! I will be doing some more work on the truck soon now that my Willys is 'done' (NOT!)
I would recommend getting LOTS of these little clamps....very very handy!

That is one thing that I REALLY like about my Dodge truck with camper shell. I keep a old 3-4" thick futon mattress in the back that can be unrolled to sleep on. I also have a piece of plywood on the floor covered in marine carpet to make the floor flat.
I REALLY appreciate the ability to...
That is what I first thought when I was looking into axle options for a future JK based project, but I think the Powerwagon axles are an excellent option. With proper backspacing on the pickup axles you can be pretty close to most JK width axles with aftermarket wheels. The bonus to the truck...
This thread needs more pictures....even if they are photoshop ones....
This is what I would build with an open checkbook. After the last few years I think this is what I want. Rough idea.....
-JK 4-door converted to a long wheelbase 2-door with the some of the JK8 body kit parts
-Custom...
I needed a pic with a more accurate wheel size for my final use.....39.5s are about right....
I don't really care for the color, but I think it give's a really good perspective on size with a person in the picture. Sorry 4wheel and Sport Utility and Nemesis Industries for chopping your pic...
Ummmmmm......on board air?
In my opinion NOTHING does more for off-road performance than proper air pressure in the tires. While its 'free' to go down in pressure, getting the tires back up is always a bit of a hassle. I tend to see a LOT of tire problems that could be fixed with a plug kit...
I would LOVE to get my hands on the factory test data and results from the testing program for the development for the J8.
They basically took a JK and subjected it to extreme off-road abuse and found out what failed....then the fixed the problems and gave it a huge increase in expected life...
The J8 is MUCH improved from its JK roots, but there is still a LOT of commonality between the two.
-Engine is a diesel, basically similar to the current overseas 2.8 CRD used in current production but a more 'simple' version without DPF. The J8 has an improved cooling system and air cleaner...
The JK is basically a half ton truck or better as far as components go.
The J8 program vehicles have a payload ( in the 'bed' ) of the vehicle of 2000lbs and a tow capacity of 7000lbs. The J8 isn't THAT far away from its JK heritage. I'm not saying that you can treat the stock JK like that...
My current wishlist.....
-Add the long wheelbase 2-door chassis from the J8 to the lineup. With a few dealer options it could provide a utility vehicle or a pickup really easy.
-Make a nice 2-door long wheelbase hardtop with panel sides ( so I don't have to :) )
-More engine options. I think...
You can always borrow a little technology from the hardcore 'rockcrawler' crowd and modify the transfer case ( or install an Atlas ) to allow front wheel drive only. A little rear brake only via the e-brake and you can slide the front end right around, unless your front end scatters all over the...
Depending on how much time you wanted to spend on the design.........
You could just have the entire side of the top open up vertically. If you retained the factory 4-door B-pillar in the conversion you would even have a pretty decent seal on the front edge of the access panel.
I saw a...
Agreed, I think with the aluminum top it would be much easier to add options also....
Windows, tie-down points, roof racks, solar panels, sand mat mounting points, fold down tables, shovel and/or axle mounts, etc.....
I would hesitate adding extra weight to the factory spare tire carrier....
Teraflex has a cast aluminum replacement tire carrier system that looked very nice. It still relies on the stock mounting points on the fixed side of the hinge. They are supposedly pretty strong from the factory.
Just...
