    Jerrycan storage, rear tire carrier

You can add JUST the AEV tire carrier and there new fuel caddy. In my option that would look very stock. You would also get the ability to add a slightly larger or heavier tire without having to worry about the stock rear door coming apart in a few years. They also offer a hi-lift mount and even...

    If Jeep offered more choices.....

Thanks for the info Dave. Now make sure to tell us how sweet it is to drive a modern diesel JK every day :)

    If Jeep offered more choices.....

I fully understand the advantages to the diesel engine. I drive a diesel every day and FULLY enjoy it. The main issue I see with modern diesel engines is that fuel doesn't seem to be available just over the border in Mexico. That is basically a deal killer for me from an 'expedition' use...

    If Jeep offered more choices.....

From what I understand Jeep is MAXED on production and doesn't have the capacity for more. What I don't understand is why they are not taking advantage of increased demand to expand and offer more. I know that takes time, probably more than most people think, but still.........DO MORE!

    If Jeep offered more choices.....

At this point for a USA based 'local' expedition vehicle that would travel to Canada and Mexico I can't see much reason to go with a modern diesel. Gasoline seems to be much more universal between the USA and Mexico? I've seen some conflicting reports on ULSD fuel in Mexico, but it doesn't seem...

    If Jeep offered more choices.....

Maybe more fuel capacity makes the list then? You can get the Longranger tank for the JK that goes on the other side of the frame from the stock tank. The Gen-Right rear tank is also an option, I think its like 20 gallons. I don't like how you have to cut the out the tub in the rear floor. I...

I think someone makes a 3rd row retrofit using a 2-door folding seat in the 4-door JK. Edit: found it. http://www.teraflex.biz/jk-wrangler-3rd-seat-bracket-kit.html

Using a Utility Shell and Rooftop Tent as a "Budget" Expedition Vehicle? (pics)

I vote number 3 unless your going to be traveling full time......it kinda depends on how many people you are going to take. For me, that is what my Dodge has boiled down to. At one point I had a sleeping platform but that went away as it wasted space. Currently I have boiled the truck bed...

Just roughly looking through it......doesn't look that good in Mexico for ULSD.

    If Jeep offered more choices.....

Tough call. I know a decent amount of people have tried over the years. We are JUST starting to see the Dodge Cummins computers fully cracked to use EFIlive now. I guess what I am saying is that unless jeep makes a LOT of diesel jeeps AND they start to become a MAJOR factor in the market there...

    If Jeep offered more choices.....

One note. To delete the DPF and EGR on a diesel jeep IF we end up getting it will require the computer to be 'adjusted' also. Historically the Jeep product computers have been some of the LEAST supported in the aftermarket ( because the code is so tightly controlled ). I would imagine if we...

    Project: Doitall Dodge

I stopped by the hardware store after work and picked up what I needed to make my heavy duty replacement pushrod. A few minutes on the lathe and I was able to turn down a 4.5" long 1/2-20 bolt into the new pushrod. I needed to reduce the diameter to approx .350" to replicate the dia of the...

    Size matters, part 3

For me your good ol' regular cab longbed pickup is a good compromise for your typical 'traveling' style expedition work. If you want it to bridge over into what I would call 'technical exploration' where you are going to try to get out on a difficult trail ( Rubicon, Dusy Ershim, etc ) than it...

JK 4-door to 2-door long wheelbase conversion.....

Its totally possible. The process has the same hurdles as fiberglass....and I think you pretty much have to cure it in an oven to make it the strongest possible. Remember, there is a difference between strong and durable. I think a properly constructed aluminum top would be WAY more durable...

BAE SD Brazos Chassis now available through GXV

FINALLY! A usa available heavy duty off-road capable platform for sale to the general public! So what is everyone's opinion on the lack of any 'low-range' style gearing? All the International based BLM fire engines I used to drive way back when had a hi-lo transfer case...and where useless...

Forward Control Jeep (FC)-Scott Brady's Test Drive- A Great Read!!

Tough call, Unimog's get a fairly long service life but the maintenance is generally increased from a normal axle. While you can do some really neat things with a portal axle, I just don't know if its worth the extra overall height....

Forward Control Jeep (FC)-Scott Brady's Test Drive- A Great Read!!

I think cab over 'trucks' are medium duty high GVW units. I think they don't have to meet the same crash test regulations as light 'passenger' vehicles?

JK 4-door to 2-door long wheelbase conversion.....

I did another chop on a vehicle that was modified a little bit more...the JT concept truck based on the J8 body. The more I think about this style of vehicle the more I like it. I didn't think I would like the simple utilitarian top without any windows, but I think it just goes the best with...

    If Jeep offered more choices.....

I hope the new 3.0 diesel from VM/Fiat will fit in the JK chassis. The older 3.0 from benz would not easily fit because there was an interference issue with the steering box if I remember right. I would be tickled pink with even the 2.8 in the Wrangler chassis. I have driven that combination...

    Project: Doitall Dodge

It is right where the shaft necks down, it developed a bend in that location after a few million cycles, and then finally failed. The material is basically cast pot metal....lame. I am going to make a new one out of a grade 8 bolt on the lathe. I have to go pick up a new rod end. The old one...
