    The "Az Crew" Thread

Is that an indy shop or a chain? Is John the manager or one of the mechanics? Thanks for the recommendation.

    The "Az Crew" Thread

Question for the AZ Crew, specifically those in the Valley. I'm attending MWU in Glendale right now, though usually I'm in Flag. I need a good Mitsubishi mechanic in my area that can take care of an oil leak or two, and some other small items as well. Does anyone have a good shop or indy...

    Montero 3rd gen radio install

How did you wire it for power? Straight to the battery or via another circuit? If you used another circuit, what one? I ask because I had nothing but problems with my aftermarket Sony unit. Initially, none of my dash lights worked because the shop wired the "dimmer" and "illumination" circuits...

Good to hear, that just saved me a chunk of change. Thanks!

Mitsubishi Montero Gen 2.5 Horn Repair or Bypass

So, I have this same issue now. I moved to a much hotter climate, and the expansion of the copper switch makes the horn go off at random times. I've got the wires disconnected from the horns proper, but would like to have a functioning horn in this metropolis. Does the bypass of the factory...

Gauge and HVAC Control Lights are dead

Well, back to this issue, dammit! Dash lights are out again, ozone smell...something happened. When I solved this previously, I did not replace the rheostat and I did not wire the CD player straight to the battery. I've got the correct rheostat ordered, but want some help on the wiring...

Gauge and HVAC Control Lights are dead

Just got finished in the garage and I have everything working now. I simply clipped the wires, taped their ends off and taped them out of the way. I think that having the two wires together was the only issue. Now they are separated by several layers of tape, and should not cause me any...

Gauge and HVAC Control Lights are dead

I dug in to the harness above and everything looked OK except for some orange colored wires. The orange wire are not shown on the radio wiring harness diagram in the install instructions. The black connector is what is labeled in the install instructions. From the white harness end, the solid...

Gauge and HVAC Control Lights are dead

OK, so something I hadn't noted before. With the new radio completely disconnected from the vehicle, the fuse still blows. If I remove the harness, seen below, the fuse does not blow, but as soon as I reconnect the white end to the vehicle, the fuse blows. It does not need the radio...

Gauge and HVAC Control Lights are dead

Bringing this back up as I am still working on the issue. I got the issue with the power antenna sorted, and have narrowed down the issue with the dash lights. Here is what I have so far. Fuse #23 under the hood is blowing constantly with the radio connected. This means my right tail laps...

Gauge and HVAC Control Lights are dead

OK, got some of this figured out and the shop screwed up on the install. If you look at the first photo, this is the back of the OEM MM radio. Notice the two round holes on the right side; and notice in the second photo, the two wires that attach the radio. When I pulled the new radio out...

Gauge and HVAC Control Lights are dead

HU has the power antenna hook up, but was not used as I discovered this weekend. The dimmer is not getting the proper power as far as I can tell. I'm heading to the install shop on Monday to talk with them about the install.

    High Altitude...

I live at 7000' feet. Traveled this summer at altitudes of 9000' and several trips at 10000' and then some. The Montero will do just fine. If you are traveling slow, offroad, drop it in 4lo and you'll be fine.

Gauge and HVAC Control Lights are dead

Definitely not that specific fuse. I'm not sure if the radio install caused the problem, or if they two are mutually exclusive, or related some how.

P0450 and lots of pressure when removing the gas cap - on the road in Utah

Good to hear the issue is resolving or not showing up again. We were just in Vernal a few weeks ago on our trip. 100* temps at Dinosaur NM had us heading for cooler temps in CO. In all seriousness, I get an awful lot of off-gassing from fuel tanks in summer and have never had any codes show...

Gauge and HVAC Control Lights are dead

I've got an odd issue with my 2001 LTD that I hope you all can help with. The gauge and HVAC control lights are dead and the dimmer is not working either. I have checked all the fuses and such and found nothing wrong. All of the start-up diagnostic lights work fine, so does the door open...

P0450 and lots of pressure when removing the gas cap - on the road in Utah

You may be overthinking this and trying to correlate to unrelated things. In summer heat, especially when filling a near empty tank, there is always a lot of pressure release. Unless you are having driving issues, I'd monitor the situation, but not brain hump it. Depending on the direction...
