    The Dakar Car

Nope, there really isn't much that fits the mid-size category well. While a lot of vehicles would make ok bases, I think you would end up changing just about everything to get to the vehicle I have in my head...... I really think an enclosed rear section is important. No setting up a RTT, no...

    Project: Doitall Dodge

Yup, as soon as I can drive the Willys to work and back without needing a trailer I will tear into the truck a bit this summer. 366 spring, turbo, and gauges are at the top of the list. I think the getrag works just fine. If you have one that has lasted this long it probably wasn't one with...

    Project: Doitall Dodge

Yup, that is pretty much what I have been avoiding. I think being able to tow in 4th really helps out also. With my tall gearing I can run 4th at 55-60 without much issue, and I generally don't tow much faster than that on twisty two lane roads around here. I came back from Moab last week with...

    Rango.....1942 Willys MB

I added an 1/8" plate piece to the 'top' of the XJ pedals to hold everything together and give me a point to add some more reinforcement in the future. The manual master cylinder adapter is from Speedway Motors. http://www.speedwaymotors.com/Power-Brake-Booster-Conversion-Plate,6207.html I...

Today I got something done..... I think I found the problem with my front crank seal.... Overall the fix wasn't too bad. It takes a few hours to get that far back into everything. I pulled the grill to give myself more room. I was able to unplug the radiator electric fan and pull the entire...

    The Dakar Car

I have a lot of ideas :) It's tough to define the 'perfect' vehicle I think....... I had a thread going in general about this at one point, but it never really went like I wanted. Thread here if you want to read it.... http://www.expeditionportal.com/forum/threads/40075-Building-from-Scratch...

Camper Shells: your experiences and suggestions

After my recent Moab Willys shakedown run I have to throw another vote in for a dead simple hard side camper setup.... Mine has pretty much just boiled down to....... -Hard camper shell, $100 snugtop off CL -Piece of plywood on the floor of the bed covered in marine carpet to make the floor...

    Choice of first modification POLL

A winch gets you home......lockers just get you stuck further from home.

    Project: Doitall Dodge

I agree, I just need to the the Willys a little more reliable so that when that little top hat thing goes flying across the shop I can still get to work :) I also have that he351cw turbo that needs to go on....and gauges.....and bigger brakes.....hydroboost....14-bolt rear axle.....center...

    Truck of the Month??

Meh..... I don't really think we need it. What does it really gain the board overall? I don't really think its going to gain us too many new members, views, or whatever. If you like what someone is doing on their projects, say so. I generally thing positive feedback during the building phase...

It's the blank vehicle fund after my Willys buildup!

    The Dakar Car

Both of those examples look very good. I was thinking about this a little more yesterday evening. For a while there, I was having visions of a totally scratch built vehicle again. I just don't know if its worth modifying an existing vehicle and making a lot of compromises on the design when...

    Rango.....1942 Willys MB

Yup! It's just a big 4wd go-cart..... 68.63" tall to the top of the cage, 71.75" wide to the outside of the tires. It really is a SMALL vehicle, and that was part of the idea. While the wheelbase is a little short, this little thing should fit places that would make most stock 4wd vehicles...

New Hemi Mopar Jeep Wrangler Apache | 2012 Easter Jeep Safari

Summary? Last I heard from AEV the 5.7 vvt hemi was beating out the 3.8 at least. The 3.6 seems to be getting less than advertised across the board....

New Hemi Mopar Jeep Wrangler Apache | 2012 Easter Jeep Safari

From my understanding the VVT hemi jeeps did abut the same or better as the stock 3.8. It will be interesting to see how the 3.6 compares in all this. Just because you have the power doesn't mean its necessarily going to be less efficient in the long run.

    The Dakar Car

Yup, that is my general thinking. Having the ability to be totally inside out of the weather is important.... A few years ago, I did a concept for a landrover(ish) based expedition vehicle ( basically 110 with only the front doors ) that had a 'kitchen' slide that could be used inside the...

    Storage Setup In Jeep Wranglers

some tips.... -A D-handle shovel will fit with the spade forward and down along the wheel well. A simple bracket off the existing rollbar can hold it in place -An axe fits with the head back behind the C-pillar of the cage -A soft tool bag will fit behind each front seat on the floor. I...

    The Dakar Car

This idea popped up in my head again during my recent trip to moab for my Willys shakedown run........ I think I would change the concept a little bit....... -I have to wonder if the new JK8 body kit, or at least part of it, could be modified to make a long wheelbase 2-door JK kinda like the...

New Hemi Mopar Jeep Wrangler Apache | 2012 Easter Jeep Safari

I think using the new 5-speed auto is great. That automatic has seen some high torque diesel applications I believe overseas? Now, just make it a 'normal' 5.7 VVT hemi conversion......oh......and offer it from the FACTORY! Gees. I just can't see why they don't. I have heard crash test...

    Rango.....1942 Willys MB

Thanks.....it also oozes gear lube, power steering fluid, and engine oil..... Most of that should be fixed this weekend. The 'short' list for future 'little' modifications to keep the build going as I start to break in this new creation...... -Wire in the headlights and taillights. -Rocker...
