Hyundai ATF also works and is usually a little less $$. Beyond that, I'd stick with Mitsu ATF unless the shop Guarantee's it will work.

The shop?

The transmission has been working with muddy water and over the counter Oreilly's cherry flavored cough syrup.

I did a bit of research yesterday and found that people were using this stuff without issue:

I think thats pretty much second best. I'll take my chances with having to replace the transmission... it's probably already F'd from aforementioned cherry water river cocktail.

I just ordered some Superwinch manual locking hubs.

I'm debating on what transmission cooler to go with. thinking about buying a unit with a built in fan to help keep temps cool. We'll be pulling the offroad trailer (that I'm building) through TX, NM, AZ, UT, ID, WY, and CO this summer. Hills and heat.

Let us know what Trans Cooler you go with. I want to do this mod as well. You bought 12 quarts for $114? JESUS! I got mine for like $5 a quart. I work at a Toyota Dealer, so Mitsubishi gives me a discount :wings:

No, I refuse. I paid $90 for 12 qts a few months ago.... but water logged the truck..........

I bought the Castrol brand red juice instead at $6/qt

LaOutbackTrai,

Does your rig have a different tranny than my 97 LS? My manual says use Dexron II (or III, I forget).

I need to replace the fluid in the next 5k miles or so, was looking at the Red Line Synthetic, it's about $45.00 gallon or Mag 1 synthetic, that's about $5.00 a quart if you buy in bulk.

I'm sorry, but I do not know if there is a difference in the transmissions. The 1992-1995 FSM shows two transmissions, V4AW2 and V4AW3. I'm fairly certain mine is the W2.

On the topic of ATF, check out what the FSM says:

I honestly don't know what sort of secret sauce Mitsubishi would put into their ATF... but if they recommend anything other than Diamond SPII-SPIII, then it can't be that special.

And the only other thing I know from my research is that Mobil 1 is a seemingly definite killer of our transmissions.

I've gotten all of my information from the internet, so its out there. Uncle Google is your friend.

Now that's confusing. Either SP or Dex will work. There's a lot of info online saying that SP and Dex are different/incompatible.
