Thanks!

I hadn't seen the picture from that angle and it looks great. I am curious why you went with the 4" backspace -- was it due to clearance issues with the factory upper control arms you had prior to the billet pieces?

Do you have any clearance issues with the brake calipers?

And lastly -- do the polished wheels come with a clearcost? I was curious how the finish holds up in northern winters...

Sorry to throw a ton of quesitons at you but I've had a lot of difficulty finding information about these wheels and your help is greatly appreciated!

I went with the big back space, because of the stock upper control arm, I didn't want it touching at all with low tire pressure when wheeling, I intend to go to 35" tires one day too. Plus I just like the stance of a 4" back space. You could certainly us a 4.5" with no problems. Clearance issues with the brake caliper are none and everything works nice there. They do not come clear coated from what I see, but I don't use them in the winter time unless I do some wheeling, I use the stock 17 Tacoma wheels with 245 75 17 Bridgestone blizzaks. I'm considering changing wheels studs to something a bit longer. I haven't had any problems yet, and I haven't heard anything from other guys running the same set up. I would just like more thread. I guess I haven't done it cause its a big job. :)

A friend of mine runs 35 BFG's with 1.5 spacers, not sure on the back spacing but his tires rub hard against the body mount when turning and stuffed, even pulling into steep driveway's. This is his set up. Any solutions besides modifiying the body mount or SAS, which he is considering?

If I got 35's I'll be going wide body with fenders and do a bit of trimming for everything including the ARB bumper will get trimmed. It won't be happening anytime soon but I wanted my options open to anything :) :sombrero: My friend Kevin has been poking me to do a wide body kit on my truck. I love the look, but I don't have 10K for the conversion.

I've never heard of a wide body kit, does it relocate the body mounts or is it just fenders n stuff?

Just front & Back fenders and stuff.

Sorry I call it a wide body kit, from my 5.0 Mustang days.

Cool, well, at least you have a heads up as to what to expect when you up size to 35's. The only place the tires ever rub is on the body mounts just behind the wheel well. I was hoping I wouldn't have to mess with those, oh well.

yeah its kinda of a bummer but oh well. Thats building, but I don't have to tell you that :).

I kinda like the look of that low 35" tire pre-runner style, but kinda making it functional as an expedition truck/chase truck. Its hard to have everything.

Well if I end up modifiying the body mount, I'll post it for ya. We have been putting it off due to way to much talk about an sas for his 06 this summer, then it wouldn't be necesary.

MPH and Aeroform?

Your truck is looking great. I still need to get going on upgrading my suspension, the Shrockworks bumper is too much weight for the stock springs, just trying to figure out what i'll need to do it all in one sweep.

heeltoe: I have a question for you. I have ask myself this too about my truck purchase.

Seems like you are trying ot get the most power of your Tacoma.

Why not start with a half ton fullsize? A Chevy Vortec V8 will put out 365 horse stock, probably get that to 400 easily. Gas mileage is fairly close, plus you can tow more.

Well, to be honest, I don't really need a full size truck, My truck is also a trail truck when I'm out camping and wheeling. Some of the trail are pretty tight, and a full size is just a few inches wider than mine and wouldn't fit.

I have always LOVED the Tacoma, but never really found the early Gen's that comfortable, being 6'1" and long in the legs I like to be comfortable on long drives. When I saw the new size and styling in 05, I had to have one and bought one a few months later, being the 06 you see.

This is my first Toyota and after having one now I wouldn't go back to anything the other companies build ( small trucks that is ). I wouldn't buy a new Tundra because for the same price here, I can have a full size dodge one ton cummins mega cab for about 2K less out the door price. Plus the dodge would drag that new tundra all over place. I know its two different trucks, but using it just to compare pricing for what you get. At the end of the day the tundra is still just a half ton.

In a couple of years, when Toyota finally comes out with there one ton diesel powered truck, cause we all know it's coming one day. I will consider buying one, if its a huge price, I'll buy the Dodge and still keep my Tacoma.

The only way I will ever get rid of my Tacoma, will be from a write off, and then it will become a full time trail truck, or it's stolen and never recovered.

Hope that sheds some like on it :)

PS - Its also about building a killer Tacoma/trail truck/daily driver. :sombrero: :safari-rig:
