I never updated! Bad, Garrett!
I got the 4'' speakers rewired in the front with new 12 gauge wiring (overkill) since the original wiring turned out to be grounding out somewhere. It sounds amazing!
The rear 5.25 speakers are NOT holes for 5.25 so I am expecting another set of 4'' rear speakers to come on Friday...the day of my trip. At least it cranks up front!
The second thing is I redid the entire auxiliary wiring system. I'm no longer using the NL Portable Power Pack since I want to run two auxiliary batteries. I'll come up with a covering solution, but until then, they sit strapped down under the rear seat with an 8 guage lead going to a 8-way fuse panel which so far powers the:
radio
subwoofer
interior lights
12V outlets
CB Radio
Water pump
With Mojave coming up, I won't be doing anything drastic except the rear speakers if I get time. I may get one of those low voltage monitors with built in alarm, but with only a few days to go, I don't think I'll get around to installing it.

Awesome trip report!!
I did two weeks in Baja with my van. I have old man emu's and the 2" GoWesty springs on 15" rims. The ONLY time I used 4 was on the beach. I too am amazed by the capabilities of the van in 2wd! The clearance makes a huge difference. If I was to do it again I would keep it 2wd and just add the rear locker, suspension and BFG's. After my last trip I really have the air pressure dialed in. I use 20lbs on trails and 15 for sand. That 5lbs makes a HUGE difference on the transmission!

Thanks for the tip! I'm looking into the spring/shock swap since I looked and see my rear shocks dripping oil.
One thing at a time though. I got the highway hiccups and might have to get one of those $550 new AFM dealies from GoWesty.

Put in a new distributor cap and rotor, spark plug wires, air filter.
Still to do with parts in the garage ready to go:
Spark plugs
Oil change and oil filter
fuel filter and check fuel lines
New Air Flow Meter
I don't want to put in the new AFM because I have blowback from the motor into the AFM/intake tube of oil which I think is probably what made the sensor go a little wacky. I need to figure out the probemo.

I got quoted ridiculous prices to get new 14'' tires and it's less expensive to get new 15'' rims and tires! Looks like new rims are coming sooner than I thought. I had it towed home to the driveway to await shoes.

It's probably the cotton membrane in the breather tower. They rot after a couple of decades and allow raw oil through. It's a sealed part, but I've heard rumours of someone repairing it. It'd have to be cut apart to do that though. IMO easier to just replace it.

I too went 4x4 to Westy quite a while ago. I did a Ford v6 conversion in my '84. It's been for sale recently in Bozeman for 10k$!
Westfalia's have the best camping layout period. I've never seen better for the given space. Realy comfy. I wish they'd update the motors and re introduce them here. I've missed mine from the day I sold it.
