I smell an OJ article with Scott's new rig coming soon!!

.......Never mine......I'm sure he will be going for a diesel swap instead!

:lurk:

So it's $6000 before you purchase the engine and transmission? This is sounding like a $15,000 project if you pay someone else to install it.

That's about right - I think AEV's out the door cost is around $17k including transmission. With major surgery like this, you get what you pay for.

Gimme an engine swap done right that's cheap. I dare you.

Dave does his homework and he definitely knows his stuff. I'll be hoping to announce my own exciting AEV news...later.

The AEV web site says they will do the 5.7L Hemi swap for $18,750, all parts included.

On a Jeep forum, somebody asked about the need to upgrade from Dana 44 to a Dana 60 axle when you add the Hemi. An AEV employee replied that the axle upgrade would not be necessary "if your brain is attached to your right foot."

Since smoky burnouts and launching off dunes is what the Hemi is all about, I think the axle upgrade is really a good idea. (Please, no replies that you're spending $18K to increase your fuel mileage!). AEV offers a rear axle upgrade to a Dana 60 for $5600.

Lets see: $18,750 for the Hemi, $5,600 for the axle swap, new tires and wheels, suspension lift...this is looking like a very expensive purchase!

I still can't stop thinking about the cost of this Hemi upgrade!

Dodge can make a profit selling the Ram 2500 Power Wagon
for $40,000. That includes the Hemi motor, stout drivetrain,
beefy axles, and big tires. And a lifetime drivetrain warranty.

I see no reason why Jeep couldn't use similar parts under the
Wrangler. They already build the J8 model in Egypt using
a Dana 60 rear axle.

I suspect that if sales of the AEV conversion start to gain
popularity, then Jeep will produce its own Hemi Wrangler,
and sell it for less than $40K.

Or maybe Jeep will buy AEV instead!

They took the prototype on the Rubicon trail. And it did the whole trail with no problem. I'm an FJ guy but that rig is really nice.

Why pay someone else to install it? Sounds like a fun project to me! :punk03:
